In a recent report, FHI writes that the risk of a national outbreak remains low, but that we must plan for a new wave this winter.
FHI emphasizes that they currently do not see any signs of a national outbreak. While the risk of a new national outbreak in March is considered low, they believe the risk of more local outbreaks is high.
– We must also plan a new national wave, even if the aim is to avoid it by following the strategy as it is now. If it did arrive, it is more likely to happen in the fall and winter when people gather indoors to a greater extent, writes FHI in the report.
More concerned about Bergen and Oslo
Yesterday, Prime Minister Erna Solberg launched several measures that can be introduced if there is a new national wave. NIPH believes there will be more local outbreaks in the future.
– We believe that outbreaks, especially among young adults, can be large through infection in social settings. Outbreaks seem to be exacerbated in later life, as symptoms in this age group are usually mild. In addition, we must be on the lookout for outbreaks related to meetings in religious associations, teams and communities, writes FHI.
How aligned are corona phones? Not so much, judging by this round of sound:
FHI notes in the report that they are more concerned about the situation in Bergen and Oslo.
– Spread among young adults can initiate further spread in these settings and detection of infection is difficult, writes FHI.
– We fear that the epidemic in these cities will stabilize at a higher level rather than decrease, writes FHI in the report.
The Bergen municipality said at a news conference Thursday that they now see a more widespread infection in the population.
Explain that hospitalized patients have not increased
FHI lists the following reasons why the increase in infection has not led to more hospital admissions:
- Comprehensive testing and infection tracking, allowing them to detect multiple cases. “This means that a higher proportion of those infected can be found. The possibility of covert proliferation is reduced,” says FHI.
- Much among the young: NIPH notes that much of the infection occurs among young people, who are at low risk of becoming seriously ill. They note that young people may have limited contact with the elderly, so few elderly and vulnerable people have been infected.
