Starting tomorrow, travelers coming to Norway can shorten the quarantine period to seven days, if they test negative for COVID-19 twice after arrival.

Published:

This was stated by the Ministry of Health and Sanitary Services in a press release on Monday.

The first test must be done within three days of arrival. The second at the earliest after seven days.

– It’s voluntary to test yourself. If the test is not performed or there is no capacity to do so, it must be quarantined from entry for ten days, writes the Ministry of Health and Care Services in the press release.

The regime applies from Tuesday, December 29, inclusive at 08.00. Travelers who have arrived in Norway less than ten days ago and have self-assessed on arrival or within three days of arrival can also use the program by retesting no earlier than day seven or more late.

There is already a requirement in the crown regulations that those entering Norway from abroad must be able to refer to a negative corona test, be it a rapid test or a PCR test, which takes less than 72 hours. The requirement does not apply to Norwegian citizens.

The new agreement does not apply to travelers who have been in the UK in the last 14 days prior to arrival. For them, it is mandatory to prove themselves, but they still cannot shorten the inbound quarantine.

– We are creating this alternative, among other things, to get a better overview and control of infection among travelers, says the Minister of Health and Care Services Bent Høie (H).

The Ministry of Health emphasizes that the tests are voluntary and depend on the testing capacity in the municipalities and laboratories.

Controller exception

At the same time, the government is changing the rules so that long-distance transport drivers and train personnel who do not work on freight trains can leave incoming newspapers, even though they have been in the UK for years. last 14 days.

They must still be quarantined in their spare time.

– The Norwegian Institute of Public Health considers that long-distance transport drivers are unlikely to contribute significantly to the spread of infection in Norway. This occupational group helps ensure the flow of goods, so we think it is right to make an exception, says Høie.
