Sweden has long struggled with high death rates and uncontrolled transmission in society. In recent weeks, the authorities have become increasingly tougher.

– This year we cannot celebrate Christmas as usual, and we cannot celebrate with all those with whom we usually celebrate, said Löfven.

The result is that the norm for how many people can get together in social gatherings is now eight.

– We ask you to celebrate Christmas and New Years with fewer people. There is a maximum of eight people that can meet. That means hitting is as rare and rare as possible, said Löfven, who also asked Swedes to avoid trains, buses and not to go shopping. The ideal is to meet people outdoors.

– Do this for all of us, and do it so that Santa Claus can deliver the packages, said the Prime Minister, who also made it clear that people will not receive any punishment if they violate these rules, but asked the Swedes to follow them.

– For everyone, and I really mean everyone, common sense, great care and personal responsibility apply, he says.

There are around 100,000 Swedes living in households of more than eight people. They will be allowed to celebrate together.

Increased infection

In the last week of November, Löfven delivered what was described as a historic speech. At the time, he believed that many Swedes had been careless with infection control and therefore asked the Swedish people to remember that more than 6,000 people have already died from the crown.

He also said that around all those who have died, there are some who have lost a parent, a loved one or a loved one.

Since then, they have become even more infected. In recent days, another 60 people have lost their lives to the crown in Sweden and the total number of people who have died from the crown is now more than 7,000. Almost 280,000 Swedes are infected.

Closed in Denmark

It is not just Löfven who is preparing for a difficult Christmas break. In Denmark, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen came out yesterday and closed 38 Danish municipalities.

– We must have better control over the infection before Christmas Eve itself. It will take a lot from all of us, he says.

The situation in Denmark is dire. Danish health authorities have put forward an estimate that they fear up to 4,000 new infected people every day until Christmas. They recommend more restrictions to limit the infection, Danmarks Radio reported.
