Tesla is a young car brand. Ten years ago, hardly anyone had heard of them. However, in this short time, Tesla has become the standard that even those who have been producing cars for over 100 years now compare to electric cars.
Therefore, the phrase “Tesla killer” has been widely used in recent years. You are not always right …
But the car in these photos can definitely be. We speak Chinese Xpeng, which is already in Norway and has opened for sale the compact SUV Xpeng G3.
They have more going on. Namely, Xpeng P7.
In physical size, it’s somewhere between the Tesla Model 3 and the Model S, but it should, if everything goes according to plan, cost less than a Model 3.
At the same time, it offers greater range and lots of exciting technology. What includes self-driving.
The basic design is not completely different either. We dare to say that it is quite obvious what the Chinese company has been looking for during the development of its P7.
Now we really start talking to Tesla’s competitor …

Many Tesla Similarities
The Xpeng P7 is a relatively large car. The wheelbase is almost 3 meters and the total length is 488 cm, which should mean good interior space. We found the batteries between the front and rear axles. As Tesla has done in Model 3.
The lines of the car are signed by designer Rafik Ferrag. You feel like you’ve seen this before. Because from the side there is a lot of Tesla Model S. In particular, the coupe-like rear and its proportions are similar, as are the slightly wide “hips” on the rear fenders and the design of the side windows.
From the front it is quite strong and sporty with a narrow strip of light across the entire front. It is not difficult, it is also very aerodynamic. Ferrag and his team have managed to reduce the cw value of P7 to an impressive minimum of 0.236. This in turn will contribute to a broader scope.
Thousands expect excitement: now the new electric Skoda has worked
Going far
The battery should be at a speed of 81 kWt. Must provide a range of 706 kilometers. However, based on aging and the overly optimistic NEDC standard, which the Chinese still use.
If we are going to continue with the Tesla comparison, the Model 3 ends at 668 km with the same measurement standard.
Xpeng will sell P7 in various variants. The 263 hp rear-wheel drive Super-Long Range is expected to become the best seller in the Chinese domestic market. This is the model from which the range figures are derived.
There will also be a four-wheel drive P7 with two electric motors. One at 263 hp in the front and one at 161 hp for the rear wheels. That edition should be able to eliminate 0-100 km / h in just 4.3 seconds. The same number should be 6.7 seconds for the super long range with rear-wheel drive. Pretty decent numbers, that.
Honqui is another name that you may need to learn
Level 3 without driver.
Xpeng has been assisted by the same Porsche to develop the chassis and suspension of the P7. There are reasons to believe that driving characteristics must be taken into account.
P7 should also take autonomy (self-driving) to a new level. You must be Level 3 ready. To achieve this, the Xpeng XPILOT 3.0 consists of 12 sensors, five radars, and no less than 14 (!) Cameras that cover the car 360 degrees.
Xpeng even thinks they are better than Tesla, which will be the market leader in this starting today.
Inside, the P7 should be in a good place. There are few, if any, switches outside the steering wheel. The rest of the functions are controlled from the large touch screen on the dash. Everything looks neat and clean.
Judging from the photos, the place looks great, even in the back seat. The car comes with a glass roof that lets in plenty of light and the side windows are frameless. Like Tesla
Plane or limousine? Yes please both!
Smart pricing
P7 prices in China start at less than NOK 400,000 for a standard P7 with rear-wheel drive. While a super long range costs a little more. The superior 4WD High-Performance Edition costs 500,000 crowns.
A Tesla Model 3 Standard Range costs £ 431,000 and a Dual Motor Long Range with four-wheel drive costs £ 485,000. In other words, there is little doubt that they have also intelligently positioned themselves here against the brand they consider the worst competitor.
Xpeng starts the Norwegian ballet with the compact G3 and the Norwegian importer will also take the P7 model.
