The Justice Ministry and Justice Department hope that the measures against the crown pandemic will give an extraordinary increase in cases to the sheriff in 2020.

Therefore, the government proposes to assign NOK 17.5 million to 45 temporary positions in the sheriff.

If the person owed money is not decided, the sheriff can enforce the claim or make a forced sale.

– Nameman’s cases are critical in time, socially critical and have a great impact on legal certainty. The 45 positions we propose to create will address arrears and eliminate new problems ahead, says Justice Minister Monica Mæland (H).

The sheriff does not have the capacity to deal with the expected increase in the number of cases as a result of the measures that have been taken to reduce the infection, reports the Ministry of Justice and Emergency Management.

– Excessive litigation time with the prosecutor can result in otherwise viable businesses risking bankruptcy while awaiting recovery. Therefore, it is imperative that we strengthen the namesake, says Mæland.

On Tuesday, the Solberg government presents its proposal for a revised national budget for 2020.

SV and Right: will reduce collection rates

In early April, the right-wing and SV launched proposals that could mean a billion-dollar cut in fees that people with payment difficulties have to pay debt collection companies.

These were some of the suggestions:

** Reduce fees on small claims less than NOK 500. Must only be allowed with four offsets and a total fee of NOK 240, vs. NOK 700 today.

** For a claim that is paid after the first request for payment, the fee is NOK 70 against NOK 350 today. This is an 80 percent reduction.

** Halve the cleaning fee that municipalities and public agencies can impose on unpaid bills, from NOK 70 to NOK 35.

Virke Collection and Finance chief Aleksander Holand Nordahl felt that many new collection cases would not come in the future.

– We encourage all members to be careful when bringing collection cases to the sheriff, Nordahl said.
