– We see an explosion in the sense that it only takes a few days for us to have an increase of one million cases of infection in the European region, says the WHO regional director for Europe, Hans Kluge, to the AFP news agency .
He adds that there is also a gradual increase in the number of crown-related deaths.
Country after country in Europe in recent days has closed the company with measures similar to those of March. But this time several countries have chosen to keep schools open. This also applies to Norway, which introduced new restrictions on Thursday.
– We have to keep schools open until the last minute, because we cannot afford to lose a generation to covid-19, says Kluge.
At the same time, the regional director emphasizes that the current infection situation cannot continue and calls for proportional and specific measures that can be expanded.
He also recommends the extensive use of face masks.
– With the general use of bandages and strict control of social gatherings, we can save 266,000 lives by February across the European region, says Kluge.
The WHO Europe region is made up of 53 countries, including Russia and Central Asian countries. On Thursday, 12 million cases of contagion were registered in the area, with almost two million of them in the last seven days.
