Stabæk players Sammy Skytte (24) and Tortol Lumanza (26) confirm that it was they who attended a social gathering after the team was diagnosed with a team corona infection.

Published:

This is what both players and general manager Jon Tunold tell Dagbladet. Now, the duo are sitting still for breaking general quarantine rules and exceeding top football’s infection control protocol:

– We made a very stupid choice. We ignore the rules. We want to apologize to the club and for putting people in dangerous environments, Skytte tells the newspaper.

According to the newspaper, Danske Skytte is one of a total of nine Stabæk players who have passed a positive coronation test. Belgium’s Lumanza has so far tested negative following the outbreak in Stabæk.

– We want to be open about the mistake we have made. This hurts tremendously. Looking people in the eye and looking teammates in the eye is going to be difficult. We can only apologize, says Lumanza.

The duo are now risking fines from the public sector after they themselves have followed Stabæk’s request and reported their own violation of the rules to the police. The national team coach, Ståle Solbakken, was fined 20,000 crowns when he incorrectly calculated the days and was present at HamKam’s match at a time when he still had to stay home.

Stabæk will also react to players in one way or another.

– We have not decided yet, but we discussed it both with the two, coaches and with the rest of the group of players, who have come with their contribution. It will be a consequence one way or another, and it will be clear for the day or tomorrow, general manager Jon Tunold tells VG.

– Can they lose their jobs?

– No, that is not the case. We have to discuss extensively, then we will see. It is important that the players see that things have consequences.

– Do you think that the Stabæk case has a negative impact on the rejected preliminary request of the Norwegian Football Association for the best clubs in Viken to train again?

– I do not expect it, and probably Nakstad also said that he considered this as an individual case. We have told the other clubs that we are sorry. There are two guys out of a lot, and we haven’t had other similar rule violations in over a year, says Tunold.

It was the test player Moussa Njie who probably introduced the virus to the Stabæk cohort. According to the club, he had undergone a negative coronation test before his stay at Nadderud, but was told that an infected person should consider him close contact after two days of training with Stabæk.

– This is bad luck, and with the spread of the infection that is in society now, he is not to blame for this, emphasizes the head of Stabæk.

P.S! The Stabæk squad is isolation / quarantine after the outbreak that has affected at least nine players. In any case, they are not allowed to train after the adjustment in Viken County and are a total of one of the seven Elite Series clubs that are prohibited from co-training. The others are Mjøndalen, Strømsgodset, Lillestrøm, Sarpsborg, Sandefjord, and Haugesund.
