– It is very sad. We have had difficult times the last few days, the leader of the Romanian congregation tells NRK.
This past weekend they held several meetings at Bethany’s Lyngdal facility, which they rent. Two of the participants had coronary heart disease. The participants live in several different municipalities of Agder.
One of them has been reported to the police for violating the rules on imposed isolation. The municipality is also considering notifying the congregation.
There were more than 100 adults and children at several of the meetings, and this has led to a massive outbreak of infection. 60 new infections were recorded on Saturday night. Most in Lyngdal and Lindesnes.
– We followed the infection control rules and made lists of people who were there. We didn’t want anything bad, says the director. NRK chooses not to use his name.
All gatherings outside the home are now prohibited in the municipalities of Lyngdal, Lindesnes, Farsund, Kvinesdal and Hægebostad. This applies in the first instance until Monday. Flekkefjord Municipality does not implement any orders, but issues a strong recommendation.

Won’t test children
Lyngdal Mayor Jan Kristensen is desperate because some families have not wanted to put their children to the test.
– There may be a cultural difference.
– But you are not allowed to test children and you do not know if they are infected?
– No, but it is clear that in a family where the parents are infected, we assume that they are infected. They are then quarantined.
The rapporteur finds this depressing:
– There is no legal basis that says they can be forced to take the test. But children are at least quarantined if the parents test positive.

Has given orders to test
The congregation leader says he has now raised this:
– All children should be tested. Some families denied it at first, but all families who tested positive are now testing their children.
He continues:
– I said we had to follow the municipal rules. Some parents did not want to test young children because they thought it was voluntary.
The director says that they were mostly young at the meetings, which lasted several hours.
– I really hope it does not infect someone in the risk group. We didn’t want anything bad. We are very sorry for what happened.

All collections canceled
All gatherings outside the home are now prohibited in the municipalities of Lyngdal, Lindesnes, Farsund, Kvinesdal and Hægebostad.
The emergency decision was made because the outbreak is so massive and confusing.
– This means that this weekend there will be no religious or cultural events. This is what Lindesnes Mayor Even Tronstad Sagebakken says.
In his municipality, there are 20 infections on Saturday night after the outbreak in Lyngdal.
Among other things, Vigeland ungdomsskole with its 180 students should be in quarantine as of Monday. Close contacts of Romanians infected by the crown go to school.
