The powerful crown prince, who is the de facto leader of Saudi Arabia, has been sued in connection with the liquidation of Saudi journalist and dissident Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.

He is also the subject of a lawsuit brought by former Saudi intelligence chief Saad Aljabri, who is now living in exile in Canada and who claims to have received death threats from the regime in his home country.

Mohammed bin Salman is also being sued for hacking and blackmailing news anchor Ghada Oueiss on Al Jazeera, in retaliation for her critical reporting on him.

According to the Washington Post, the US Foreign Ministry is now considering the recommendation of the Saudi Arabian government to guarantee the Crown Prince’s immunity. It happens while the Trump administration is having its final weeks in the White House.

President Donald Trump has spoken warmly about Mohammed bin Salman, even after US intelligence concluded that he likely ordered Khashoggi’s assassination.

In 2018, Trump signed a deal to sell NOK 100 billion worth of weapons to the country.(Terms)Copyright Dagens Næringsliv AS and / or our suppliers.
