The Norwegian beer chain Gulating Group, has posted on Facebook what they describe as an important message about their Christmas beer calendars.
“For all of our customers: The box in hatch 2 of this year’s Christmas calendar, Hammerhead Santa’s Milk & Cookies, may pose an explosion hazard. This is due to a vendor production error, ”writes the Gulating group.
In the comment section below the post, there are several who claim to have experienced some kind of explosion:
“Mine exploded in the kitchen, but I got some good help buying a new beer. Mom also had to speed up the Christmas cleaning of the kitchen. Win, win for all of us», write one.
Another writes:
“Luke 2 exploded last night. We woke up to fresh smelled coffee and modern art on the walls and ceiling. I must say there was speed in Santa’s milk …»

Tommy Holen Helland, who is the general manager of Gulating beer sales at Byhaven at Midtbyen in Trondheim, says they have sold over 13,000 calendars nationally and not all of them can blow up.

The beer chain has also published a user guide on what to do with the box that may explode:
- Carefully remove the box from the box. If the box feels too hard and / or sticks out on top, you may be in danger of getting airborne. In this case, proceed as follows: Carefully place the box in a solid plastic bag, re-tie it, and dispose of the bag with the box OUT, to avoid possible spillage inside.
- DO NOT try to open the box; if it sticks out visibly, you can take a photo of it before “neutralizing” it as explained above. Then get in touch or stop by the beer sale where you bought the Christmas calendar; Bring a photo if you have one, but DO NOT take the box with you. You will be well received in our stores and you will receive a replacement item.
- If the box doesn’t seem particularly hard or shows signs of bulging, you can open it, but we still recommend that you do so carefully and preferably over a sink, etc. In that case, we recommend that the box be opened and drunk as soon as possible, and we would not recommend saving this over time.
