– For those of you who are thinking of crossing the border into Sweden this weekend, we recommend that you do not travel unnecessarily. There are still no green areas and there is still a risk of infection in Sweden.
This was stated by Justice Minister Monica Mæland (H) during the government press conference on Friday.
However, COO Kjartan Waage ended up using the following words when describing the border traffic to Värmland on Saturday: “In full swing.”
From night to Saturday, the Swedish region was downgraded from a red zone to a yellow zone. Therefore, Norwegians can travel to Värmland and return home without having to be quarantined afterwards.
But despite Mæland’s strict message to “border traders,” police report a marked increase in border traffic, and both TV 2 and NRK have spoken with Norwegians on a shopping trip through Sweden on Saturday.
– Often an unnecessary trip
To Dagbladet on Saturday evening, Health Minister Bent Høie says that he is happy that the infection situation in Sweden is in a very positive development, which is why several Swedish regions have now turned yellow.
– But we still recommend avoiding unnecessary trips there. Fortunately, the vast majority take this call seriously. A shopping trip will often be an unnecessary trip, says Høie.
It has the following warning for “border traders”:
– If you still decide to leave, you should be very aware that there is a greater risk of becoming infected and infecting others after that trip. It should also be remembered that the elderly should not be visited in an institution until ten days have passed after such a trip.
Several Swedish regions turn “yellow”
Reject ambiguous advice
At the time of writing this report, eight Swedish regions are yellow, according to a summary by the National Institute of Public Health: Örebro, Gotland, Värmland, Västernorrland, Jämtland, Norrbotten, Södermanland and Västerbotten.
In front of TV 2, several Norwegians in the Swedish trade express that the advice of the authorities is ambiguous.
Many people find it difficult to relate to the fact that traveling across the border is discouraged, when regions like Värmland are marked in yellow.
If you don’t want Norwegians to travel, the regions should have been kept in red, it appears in the TV 2 function.
Bent Høie denies to Dagbladet that the advice is ambiguous.
The government changes quarantine rules
– I think most people basically know when a trip is unnecessary. We must remember that we must work together to overcome the pandemic. So it is not only about what is legal, but also what is wise, says the Minister of Health.
– It’s easy to think that I’m careful and that this is going well for me. It may seem logical to the individual, but if everyone thinks like that, there is no charity.
