On Sunday, NVE issued a series of hazard warnings for various areas in southern Norway. The warnings include wind, high water levels, as well as flooding and landslides in several areas.
Landslide warnings apply to Telemark, Innlandet, Viken and the internal parts of Sørvestlandet.
– 40-60 millimeters is a lot of rain, especially for indoors. And there has been quite a bit of precipitation in the previous days, says Bjørn Sønju-Moltzau in NVE to Dagbladet.
– It is typical in a situation like this, when the soil becomes so saturated with water. There is a long time waiting, he says.
The fight that changed Biden
NVE advises people to stay away from steep slopes, as well as streams and rivers with heavy water flow. These are especially vulnerable to landslides.
– Low pressures are in line
Danger of flooding has also been announced in the same counties. Sønju-Moltzau explains that there is good control in regulated waterways, but that in smaller waterways it is more unpredictable.
– There may be water lost quickly, he says.
– What people can do is keep an eye on drains, gutters, sinks and all the other places that carry water.
It is also recommended to secure and move valuables out of exposed areas such as basements, cars, and caravans that may be standing along rivers and streams.
Sønju-Moltzau explains that there are normally a lot of leaves and leaves that can clog drains at this time of year.
– It takes little for the water to take its own paths. Over the next week, low pressures are in line and the snow line is high, he says.
Therefore, only a small amount of precipitation will settle as snow on the mountain.
Strong gusts of wind along the coast
Coastal areas are not immune to the storm either. Martin Granerød of the Meteorological Institute says they have sent out warnings about high water levels in western Norway and strong winds along the coast.
Doctors’ strike ends: – Life and health in danger
– The water level applies from Lindesnes and north to Ålesund. In addition, we have sent warning of danger for gusts of 20-25 meters per second from the coast and inland. The strongest wind gusts are likely to be in the Oslo Fjord, says Granerød.
People are advised to secure loose items, avoid small boat traffic, and avoid unnecessary traffic in exposed locations.
Snow in the mountains
It is the low pressure in the North Sea that will affect the weather the next day, says the meteorologist.
– The snow line will go from 1000 to 1200 meters. On the highest mountain passes it can snow, and this precipitation will affect the night and the first part of tomorrow. Tomorrow afternoon the wind will die down and change to rainy weather, says Granerød.
However, there will be no more snow in northern Norway, where they have had some snowfall in the last week. Now milder temperatures await and precipitation will come in the form of rain.
