Vivaldi – Internet Pause

[ad_1]

Are you stressed out at the home office or just need to take a break from the internet? The Norwegian Vivaldi has obviously thought of that, because in the recent browser update, you can activate a “pause mode”, called “Rest mode”.

In Vivaldi 3.3, which is now available, you will find a pause button at the bottom left of the status bar. If you press it, the following occurs:

  • all HTML5 video and audio are muted and stopped
  • all tabs, panels and other content are hidden

And then you can take a break from the internet. When you feel like you’ve had enough free time from the internet, you can stop the pause mode and resume your browsing session where you left off.

A productivity tool

But why does a browser company want users to take browser breaks? We consulted with Vivaldi.

– This functionality saw the light because we observe that both our own employees and people sit glued to the screen all day. We built Vivaldi as a productivity tool, but the best productivity comes as a result of variation, Tor Odland, Vivaldi’s communications director, tells Dinside.

The company started thinking about how to make taking a break easy, comfortable and fun.

– If one only minimizes a window of video, audio and other processes, the browser will continue to run. With Break Mode, Vivaldi turns white and all media stops, also visually. We think that is important.

– How do you think your users will use the feature?

– We hope that the pause function helps users to be more aware of being present correctly and not always in multitasking mode. Pick up that phone while standing and looking out the window, take your child who came home from school on your lap and sing a song, write down the good thoughts from the meeting you just had, or just stretch your body or have a cup of coffee, he says to Odland and adds:

– Some users may also like the pause button as a kind of “panic button” if someone surprisingly enters while working with sensitive material or the like.

Vivaldi also makes it easy to copy parts of a link into the address bar. If you press Ctrl (Windows) or Command (macOS) when you hover your mouse over the link, you can easily see which part of the link will be copied.
