Viking humiliated Rosenborg due to referee and goalkeeper error – VG

With the good help of referee Kai Erik Steen and the opponent’s goalkeeper, Viking achieved their first win over Rosenborg since 2005.

This was Hareide’s first league loss in his second stint as Rosenborg coach. This was their eighth game in the league, where the top seven ended with five wins and two draws.

Fortunately for Rosenborg, Molde didn’t take more than one point against Kristiansund, so the distance to silver square is just two points.

Viking, meanwhile, earned its first victory after the entire team had to be quarantined as a result of Veton Berisha’s positive corona test. The first three games had only yielded one point, before the game against Rosenborg.

Decided before the break

But it was the referee who initially focused.

Viljar Vevatne sent a long ball into the backcourt against a Veton Berisha offside, before the ball landed on Tore Reginiussen’s arm. Handsen had nothing to say, but the footage clearly shows that it happened several meters outside the penalty area. However, referee Kai Erik Steen pointed to the penalty spot and infuriated the Rosenborg players.

– I think it will almost be superfluous to comment on it, since it is so obvious that it is a big mistake. I can accept that it was done wrong, but it is the strangest punishment that I have received against me, Reginiussen tells VG.

The protests were to no avail and Veton Berisha safely put the penalty in goal. His twelfth goal of the season. Never before had he scored so many in the same season.

Ten minutes later, Viking doubled the lead after a cruel mistake by goalkeeper Andre Hansen. Rosenborg’s last defense took too long with the ball on his legs and put Yann-Erik de Lanlay against him at a tremendous pace. When Hansen first jingled the ball, it went straight into De Lanlay’s body before going to goal.

Now three internationals await Hansen and Norway, but on the loss to Viking costing him a starting spot between the posts, he hadn’t thought of anything.

Rosenborg shook, and just before the break came third for Viking. A corner kick landed Rolf Daniel Vikstøl’s head, who headed off the post. On the return, Vevatne got an easy job putting the ball into the open goal.

In the second half, Viking was closer to 4-0 than Rosenborg reduced. Among other things, Berisha had two attempts on the crossbar.

It then ended with the Vikings’ first win over Trøndelag since 2005.

– This means a lot for the club, says Berisha.
