In a gray and desperate first half between Tottenham and Leicester, there was drama in extra time.

Serge Aurier went headless and hit Wesley Fofana’s back inside the penalty area. Before the referee flew into the inning, he went to the VAR screen, studied the situation a couple of times, and awarded a penalty kick.

Jamie Vardy took the ball and hit it in the middle of the goal. Thus, the visiting team entered the dressing room with an advantage over José Mourinho’s Tottenham.

– Aurier was phenomenal against Liverpool and probably our best player. Today he made a mistake. Did the mistake cost us three points today? It would be unfair to say. It’s a mistake, and that’s right, says José Mourinho after the game and adds:

– I don’t mean to lose it, but you have to know when you are in your own 16 meters. When the opponent is on his back and you enter like this, then it is a mistake.

In the second half, Leicester clapped early for another goal, but then there is something called VAR. The classic lines to detect the offside emerged, and after a while the goal of James Maddison was disallowed.

But despair quickly turned into a new roar of joy. After a brief fight with the defender, Jamie Vardy finally got the ball home. Then it was on Toby Alderweireld’s thigh and a 2-0 goal for Leicester.

Towards the end of the match, Tottenham repeatedly complained of infractions that could lead to a penalty kick, but referee Craig Pawson disagreed.

Tottenham now have one point from their last three Premier League games. That point came in the away game against Crystal Palace. In the last round they lost 2-1 to Liverpool and on Sunday there was another loss to Leicester.

Thus, Leicester climbs Tottenham on the table. Leicester is now in second place, while Tottenham is now in fourth place.

VG updates the case.
