Several landslides have closed roads in western Norway. Bad weather has also caused the closure of several mountain passes.

On Sunday morning, the mountain passes in Hardangervidda and Vikafjell are also closed, Vegtrafikksentralen vest reports on Twitter.

There is column driving in Haukelifjell and Hemsedal and warning of possible column driving in Filefjell. There is also column driving on County Highway 50 between Hol and Aurland.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration encourages those planning to make the trip to be careful.

– Bring extra clothes and lots of food. Make sure the car has enough power or fuel. The trip may take longer than planned, traffic operator Jørgen Bødtker tells NRK.

– In general, there is poor visibility and difficult driving conditions, he warns.

Additional ferry

The night before Sunday, there was a landslide on County Road 61, east of the Sulesund ferry dock, Sunnmørsposten reported.

– There are geologists and construction managers on site, traffic operator Pål Olufsen of the Norwegian Public Highway Administration told NTB on Sunday morning.

It is currently unknown when the road will reopen.

– An additional ferry has been installed from Solavågen to Hareid, which also passes through Sulesund, says Olufsen.

Helicopter inspection Monday

Further south, in Stryn Township, the county road in Oldedalen is still closed after a major landslide Saturday morning.

The landslide was about 40 meters wide and started at about 1,000 meters altitude, says traffic operator Albert Sherington.

– A geologist will get into a helicopter on Monday and observe the place, he tells NTB.
