This week the first vaccination team will be sent to the different municipalities. When vaccination begins, nursing home residents take priority first, according to the NIPH.
This is expressed in a detailed guide for vaccination in municipalities, which the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) published this Monday.
Vaccine kits, such as syringes, needle boxes, and patches, will be shipped on Tuesday of this week. Subsequently, coolers will also be sent to store the vaccine doses.
According to FHI, about half of all vaccine kit will now ship during December, while the rest will likely ship in February or March.
Prioritize nursing home residents
FHI also writes that vaccination of nursing home residents will be prioritized first, and municipalities are asked to establish a clear plan on who should be vaccinated, where and by whom.
– It must be in place before the vaccine reaches the municipality. Work should begin to identify nursing home patients who are eligible for vaccination. Routines for vaccinating those without consent competency should be based on the routines that each municipality uses for annual seasonal flu vaccination, the guide says.
To the dispenser
So far no vaccine has been approved, but the Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA vaccine is likely to be the first approved and available vaccine, and it will be available for Norway by the end of the year.
The vaccine is given in two doses. It takes about a week after the second dose is given before the vaccine provides your protection.
NIPH asks municipalities to ensure that residents of nursing homes with short-term positions receive both doses.
