In the coming days, temperatures will reach 15 degrees in some parts of eastern Norway and will be mild for the season, especially throughout the country.

On-duty meteorologist Martin Granerud points out two things that characterize Norwegian weather towards the end of the week and this weekend: mild weather and westerly winds.

On Thursday and Friday, it will be much milder than usual in November, which is why the Meteorological Institute says it can remember the “Indian summer” in eastern Norway.

– It’s not 20 degrees, but so late in the season it’s almost 15 degrees and new county records, that we had earlier this week, quite a bit, Granerud points out, referring to the use of the term meaning summer weather in the fall.

Snow has to wait

On Saturday, temperatures will drop a bit, but most of Norway will remain mild. Only next week will there be a hint of north winds and a drop in temperatures.

– No, no snow in sight for the first few days, so to speak. It could well have been this time of year. You have to climb the high mountains to get sleet and snow. Mountain passes and the like remain snow-free until further notice, Granerud says.

Coastal climate

In the Atlantic, there is currently a lot of low pressure activity.

– It gives winds from the west that bring with them periods of rain and showers, as well as winds of different intensity, from Rogaland in the south to Finnmark in the north. Eastern Norway is protected from all this weather and will mostly have a stay-at-home climate during this period, Granerud says.

In western Norway, rainfall will decrease, so there will be a lot of waiting on Saturday and Sunday. However, all the water that seeps down will make it necessary to send out some alerts.

A yellow warning is sent for Helgeland for Friday, and there will probably be one for Trøndelag also for Friday, both due to precipitation. Photo: Kyrre Lien / NTB

– A yellow warning is sent for Helgeland for Friday, and there will probably be one for Trøndelag also for Friday, both due to precipitation, says the meteorologist.

In short, it will be a long weekend with quite bad weather in northern Norway, bad in the west, but gradually better, and in the east it will be quite good, until Sunday. And generally higher than normal temperatures across the country.
