It involved a man and a woman from the 1970s who ended up in Barduelva after a car accident on Saturday, police say.
The couple was rescued from the car after it fell ten meters into the river. The couple was transferred to the University Hospital of Northern Norway.
The man is receiving treatment and is stable, but several tests must be performed before the hospital can say anything about the condition. The woman is unharmed.
The divers were able to retrieve them from the car, which had ended up underwater. The treatment was administered at the crash site, which is located along Altevannsveien, about 15 kilometers southeast of Setermoen.
The message reached the police at 5:20 p.m.
– The accident occurred on a bridge in Strømslia. They are both on their way to the hospital. The condition is unknown, Troms Police District Operations Manager Lars Meland tells NRK.
The car ended up in the river after a 10 meter fall.
– This was quite a long and intense rescue operation. The two have been in the water for an hour before being rescued. The reason why they ended up in the water is unknown, but we recorded that it is very slippery in the place. Plus, the accident happened right around a pretty tight corner, Meland says.
At 7:30 p.m., the Northern Norwegian University Hospital could not say anything about the condition of the two people, who were at the time in a helicopter en route to Tromsø.
