Trump’s Twitter account was hacked – VG

On October 21 this year, the Dutch newspaper Vrij Nederland reported that they had evidence that Trump’s Twitter account had been hacked from a PC in the country days earlier.

According to the newspaper, the hacker Victor Gevers used only seven attempts to guess the correct password, which at the time should have been “maga2020!”

Gevers is a so-called “ethical hacker,” so he did not abuse the account, instead taking screenshots that he had gained access and then alerting Trump’s team so that the account’s security could be strengthened. According to Vrij Nederland, at this time Trump did not have two-step verification to access the account.

According to both the White House and Twitter The Guardian denied that Trump’s account had been hacked.

“We believe that the hacker broke into Trump’s Twitter account,” said a spokesman for the Dutch prosecution, according to the newspaper.

The prosecution emphasizes that piracy is illegal in the Netherlands, but that special circumstances can prevent one from being prosecuted, as in this case where they believe that Gevers is an “ethical hacker”.

According to The Guardian, the case is being investigated by a specialized cybercrime group of the Dutch police.

“Both the hacker and the US authorities have been informed of the outcome of the investigation,” the spokesman said.

In an interview with De Volkskrant’s newspaper, Gevers says he repeatedly tried to contact someone who could tighten security on Trump’s account, but without getting a response.

– I suddenly found out that two-step verification was on, he says, adding that he later contacted the Secret Service, who thanked him for informing them of the security breach.

This is not the first time Gevers has had access to Trump’s Twitter account. According to Vrij Nederland, he and some friends found the password “yourefired” in leaked documents in 2016.
