Brian Garibaldi is a lung disease expert and medical director in the department of specialists at the renowned John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

He is one of the doctors who is now treating the President of the United States, Donald Trump, for coronary heart disease at Walter Reed Military Hospital.

Worked to bring Remdesivir to more people

In March, Garibaldi told NRK that he works in a network trying to offer the drug Remdesivir to several patients in the United States.

Now, six months later, he is treating none other than the president of the United States with just Remdesivir, after Trump on Thursday tested positive for coronary heart disease.

During Saturday’s press conference, where doctors reported on the president’s health, Garibaldi commented on the treatment:

– Trump has received treatment with antibodies against coronavirus and the first dose of Remdesivir. The plan is for the president to have a five-day cure with the medicine. Trump is in a good mood, Garibaldi said.

The drug is not yet approved for use. However, it is approved for testing and has been used in patients in both Europe and the United States.

– One of the drugs we believe in the most

When NRK met with lung expert Garibaldi in March, he said that Remdesivir showed good results:

– It appears to be a safe drug and one of the most uplifting drugs that we hope will have some effect against coronavirus, Garibaldi told NRK at the time.

Remdesivir was initially tested in relation to treating Ebola patients, but it was found to have little effect on them.

– But there were few side effects. So it seems to be a safe drug to use, and it is one of the ones that we have the most faith in and that we hope may have some effect against this coronavirus, Garibaldi said.

– But this is a study. We don’t know if this will work. We hope you want it, but this is not a standard treatment. This is not something all patients need to get before we get data on whether or not it’s effective, Garibaldi told NRK in March.

Corona patient Donald Trump says in a greeting video from the hospital that he was not feeling so well, but now he feels much better. He also says that the next few days will be the real test:
