Trump voters are furious after controversial fundraising campaign: – Feels like fraud

According to the New York Times, many of the taxpayers must have felt misled by the Trump camp into opening their wallets on the wrong terms.

– Bandits! I am retired. I can’t afford to pay all the damn money says Victor Amelino, a 78-year-old Californian who donated almost 70,000 crowns spread over seven transfers before last year’s election.

Many of Trump’s most devoted voters were willing to do anything to get Trump re-elected. Therefore, they responded positively when they were encouraged to support him financially during the election campaign.

– It is unfair, unethical and inappropriate.

What many of the donors disagreed with was that it was written in fine print that not only would they be deducted for an amount, but the money transfers would continue week after week.

Not everyone had received this prior approval, and now many voters feel completely cheated and wasted by more money than they had imagined for their presidential candidate.

“It is unfair, it is unethical and inappropriate,” Ira Rheingold, executive director of the National Association of Consumer Advocates, told the newspaper.

Cancer man asked for money: – It felt like a scam

In one case, a cancer patient, who was hospitalized, had about 5,000 crowns a month discounted. Ultimately, the account was empty after repeated transfers to the Trump administration’s campaign against Joe Biden.

– It felt like a scam, says Russell Blatt, brother of the 63-year-old man with cancer, who died in February this year.

While the controversial fundraiser has taken place since the summer of 2020, a number of US banks and credit card companies received many inquiries from individuals who believed they were victims of fraud.

Eventually, protests against Trump’s camp approach became so massive that he was forced to reimburse donors. According to The New York Times, the amount will correspond to a total of one billion Norwegian crowns.

Refunds will amount to approximately ten percent of the total amount collected. Trump’s spokesman Jason Miller denies it, saying it’s only about 1 percent of the money donations.

“Our campaign was made possible by hardworking men and women in America,” Miller said.

Biden’s camp must also return the funds raised.

Without these funds raised, it is unclear whether Trump could have run such an extensive election campaign. Fundraising will also continue for a few weeks after Trump lost the election.

The newspaper also writes that Biden’s campaign must repay 2.2 percent of its funds raised, a total of NOK 50 million, which was raised on a similar platform.
