NEW YORK / OSLO (Dagbladet): On two different television stations, at the same time, the president and the presidential candidate held their public meeting live at 0200 on Friday evening Norwegian time. There were also two radically different performances.
While Trump was interrogated and ended up in aggressive exchanges over and over again, Biden’s meeting took place in much calmer ways where he spent a lot of time answering questions in detail.
Crownsmittet
NBC moderator Savannah Guthrie began by asking Trump a series of critical questions about the coronavirus. She pointed out her own case of infection and asked if it was wise for him to be among people.
– (…) Being among large groups is risky in a pandemic, said Trump, but added that he feels healthy and free of symptoms.
Five states away, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Biden sat in front of ABC viewers. There, he harshly criticized Trump’s handling of the crown, saying it is “the responsibility of a president to lead” and that Trump “had not done it.”
“The president knew how dangerous the virus was,” he said.
Was pressed
The background to the live broadcasts was that the presidential debate that was to take place on Friday night Norwegian time was canceled. Trump tested positive for coronavirus on October 2. While Biden agreed to hold a virtual debate in his place, the president declined to attend on the terms.
On NBC, Trump used to attack Biden in the usual way. He also received a series of questions from the moderator and was asked, among other things, to condemn the white extremists once and for all. Guthrie referred to his previous statements about the group Proud Boys.
– I condemn the white extremists, okay? I’ve been doing this for years, a clearly upset president replied, before trying to shift his focus by asking, “Why don’t you ask Biden if he condemns Antifa?”
– Let’s scrap the program, let’s keep asking these questions, he continued.

Must go to jail
Guthrie also appreciated that Trump as a presidential candidate and later as president has refused to submit his tax return. The New York Times, which has obtained the president’s tax reports, came out in early October with a disclosure in which they wrote that Trump only paid $ 750, equivalent to about 7,000 crowns, in federal income taxes in 2016, the year in that he was elected president. It has also posted debts from several years ago, according to tax reports.
Trump has denied the allegations, calling them “fake news.”
– Why don’t you file your tax returns to prove it?
“I am not presenting them out of common sense,” Trump responded, adding that he would “gladly” do so when “possible.”
Then he was tough against the New York Times revelation and the way the information could have been obtained.
– If you have my tax returns, then, as you know, you must go to jail.
– Very handsome!
Throughout the broadcast, Trump received many critical questions. Towards the end, however, a voter, Paulette, took the microphone. NBC stated that she was a Republican, but that she would likely vote for Biden. He began by showing off Trump’s appearance.
– You’re so handsome when you smile, Paulette told Trump who lit up and smiled.
Later, she, who has grandparents who immigrated to the United States, asked the president about his immigration policy.
Biden declined to answer about the Supreme Court
At the same time that Trump’s interrogation was in full swing, Biden received a series of questions from ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on topics such as the economy, taxes and the Supreme Court. He was asked to explain his tax plan, which means, among other things, that Trump’s tax cuts for American businesses and the nation’s wealthiest will disappear.
– Well, I need the votes first. Republicans and also some Democrats believe that it is possible to rule by presidential order, but we are a democracy, not a dictatorship, and we need consensus, Biden said.
– Decency
The host asked Biden what it would mean if he loses the presidential election to Trump on November 3.
– It may mean that I am a bad candidate, and that I did not do a good job, said Biden and continued:
– I hope that does not mean that we are as divided by race, ethnicity and religion, as it may seem that the president wants us to be.
Towards the end, Biden was asked if he would demand that Trump take a coronation test before the next presidential debate next week.
– Yes, it’s about decency. And honestly, I’m more concerned with the camera people than myself. I believe that the organizer will not repeat the errors of the previous debate. I plan to be there, he says.
