Few people look at Truls Svendsen (48) and think that he is a guy who thinks it is scary to speak in front of people, but that was the case for many years.

He talks about this on the “Open Journal” podcast, which is made by the couple Katharina Flatland and Harald Dubloug, who are the host and the doctor, respectively.

Svendsen says that it is not speaking in front of people that is scary, but that he is afraid of having anxiety, the so-called anxiety anxiety.

– I’m my worst enemy, it’s just a little moment when I think “now you shouldn’t get it, Truls”. Nothing has happened that says he should get it, but then it will come anyway, he tells the couple.

He stresses Dagbladet that anxiety doesn’t bother him now, and that he hasn’t experienced it during the last 120 performances he’s had with the comedy show “Fra Æ til Å”.

– It is about being well prepared, and using breathing techniques can also be of great help. The most important thing of all is to spend a long time without those experiences, because then you fear them less. A few years ago, I had it often, and then it reminded me all the time, he explains.

– Welcome! Make friends with him and expose yourself to situations where he comes up, so you can work to win him over.

The seriousness turned terrifying

The 48-year-old has also spoken before about anxiety, among other things, in an interview with Dagbladet.

Among other things, he told about his first encounter with anxiety, about 13 years ago.

– When this happened, I had been doing nonsense on television for a long time, and being silly in front of a thousand people is not a problem for me. But when suddenly you stay there and you are yourself, at parties where the audience stays still and listens. So you have time to think that now, now anxiety can come, he said in 2015.

Svendsen explains that anxiety sticks to his forehead and that he cuts off the conversation, which makes everything worse.

He also says in the podcast that it has happened that he has left the stage during conferences, precisely because of that.

The 48-year-old further says that he has some steps to make anxiety easier to manage, among other things, by using different breathing techniques. You also think that the experience will be less scary if you tell the audience that you have it, and that it is often well received.

Lost his father

On the podcast, prostate cancer is also a topic, something that Svendsen himself has had to choose from. He lost his father in October, and now says that after his death it was discovered that he had prostate cancer.

It had spread to the skeleton. He never found out for himself that he had it. Later they found out and the heart could not resist. Finally he fell asleep. Of course, it is difficult to lose Dad, but it is so difficult to see him decay, stay there and be as sick as he was at the end. I’m a little glad he let it go, he says honestly.

It is also November, the month to shed light on men’s health, and especially prostate cancer, which is the most common form of cancer affecting men.

The death of the father that Svendsen recounted for the first time in the podcast he has with his partner Eyvind Hellstrøm (71) – “Truls & Hellstrøm – it fills the mouth”.

He then explained to the listeners the background of the two’s stay. Svendsen’s father was 75 years old.

However, he and Charlotte Smith (32) were able to share some good news this summer. They revealed that they were expecting their second child. In the spring of last year, they became parents for the first time to their daughter Eva (1).

It is named after Svendsen’s mother, who passed away in 1994 after a long illness.

Now they are expecting another daughter, something they could reveal at the end of August.
