There have been 24 new infections in Trondheim in the last 24 hours. This is the highest number of infections in one day in Trondheim since the pandemic began.
The municipality has now introduced two urgent measures to curb the infection.
The municipality presents both increased ability to track infections and recommendation for prolonged use of face masks and. In a press release, Trondheim City Chief Medical Officer Tove Røsstad describes the development as “cause for great concern”.
– We have had a significant increase in the number of infected last week and quite a few that we still do not know the origin of the infection. Now we tend to find the source of most people and we do a lot of work with tracking. When there have been so many at the same time, it has delayed us in following up. So there is an unknown infection circulating, Røsstad tells Dagbladet.
The recommendation is expanded
Previously, the municipality recommended the use of masks when traveling by public transport or taxi. The recommendation is now being expanded for use in indoor public places such as shopping malls and restaurants.
The recommendation applies as of Thursday, December 10, inclusive, according to a press release from the municipality. However, the recommendation does not apply to schools and kindergartens, nor to children born after 2008.
Nine of those infected in the municipality have an unknown source of infection and one of those infected is from a red country. All those infected must have a mild course of the disease.
– As an emergency measure, monitoring capacity is increased by reassigning health personnel from other areas, he says.

May impose the use of masks
If the recommendation for a mouthpiece is not followed satisfactorily and the infection situation is still not cleared up within the next week, it may be relevant to impose the prolonged use of masks through a regulation.
– If there is still a lot of unknown infection, then it may be relevant. And if we see that people don’t use face masks to a great extent, he says.
Røsstad also does not rule out that it may be relevant to impose fines in the absence of a bandage.
Pupils and students from Charlottenlund ungdomsskole, Bispehaugen barneskole and NTNU have been quarantined as a result of the infection. Both students and teachers at Lukas Upper Secondary School and Heimdal Upper Secondary School are in quarantine.
1206 crown tests were conducted on Wednesday.
