Western police report a rescue operation in Øvre Eidfjord. A group of tourists has had trouble on the Ovaldsnuten mountain in Hardanger.

The entourage of 11 people and three dogs were trapped on the ground about 1,200 meters above sea level, police said. Just after 9 p.m., a helicopter was able to retrieve four of them.

They receive warmth and attention from health personnel, police report.

However, weather conditions made it very difficult to extract the last seven that are stuck. It was not safe to fly back to the area. The helicopter made another attempt at 11 p.m., but without success.

– It is a great pleasure to be able to say that the last seven have arrived at the Krokane huts together with the Red Cross! It ignites in ovens and everyone is physically unharmed but tired and battered. However, the mood is good. It will be there until dawn, then up to Øvre Eidfjord, finally writes the western police district Twitter at 2.48.

Many involved

Many people have been involved in the action.

– The Operations Center sends a humble thank you to the volunteers, who have participated in a demanding action! Also to HRS and professionals in the air and on the ground, as well as the Voss patrol, the police continue to write Twitter.

At 3 p.m. last night, there were still 11 Red Cross volunteers and police teams on their way to an emergency tent.

– Estimated three-hour walk before your arrival, estimates the police. Twitter.

Very cold

A first Red Cross team arrived at the remaining seven at 11:30 p.m.

They were cold then, but conscious.

– They are very cold and have been out all day. We are talking about people between the ages of 20 and 50. They have been collecting sheep, says the operations manager. E claim Hellesund in the western police district to Dagbladet.

Cold and wet

The weather is very bad in the area with strong winds, sleet, snow and low cloud cover. The temperature should be around zero degrees and people should be affected by bad weather. At least two of them must be in poor physical condition.

– We have an occasional dialogue on the phone with them. They have nowhere to seek shelter and have probably been surprised by a change in the weather. There are local people who are well known, Hellesund told Dagbladet on Saturday night.

Red Cross on the way

The first helicopter that was sent to the site to pick up the tour group had to turn around on Saturday night, as weather conditions made it unsafe to enter the area. So it was a local helicopter company that finally got on and got the four who got off without a hitch.

On Saturday night, two Red Cross teams are also on the way, but it was more than two hours of walking until those who were trapped in the mountain. Norwegian rescue dogs are also on the way with a team.

– We’re on our way now. It’s been bad weather here all day, says Eidfjord Red Cross leader Tore Tveit.

– We know where they are. Those on the way are well known and well equipped, Hordaland Red Cross section leader Einar Irjan Ananiassen.
