Towards the coronavirus tail test

An Austrian MP recently conducted a rapid coronavirus antibody test on a cola glass from the rostrum of the country’s parliament.

The test result shows that Coca-Cola has antibodies against the coronavirus, and the trick must have been done to show that the government’s commitment to these tests has failed.

The clip is winning on social media, but both the fact-checkers and the company behind the tests believe the politician made a mistake.

– Worthless

The politician who carried out the test is Michael Schnedlitz, who represents the right-wing Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs party.

The clip of him testing in parliament is shared on his own Facebook page. There he writes that this shows that the tests are worthless and that the purchase of these tests is therefore a waste of citizens’ taxes.

In other posts on Instagram, a photo of him on the podium is shared with the claim that the government crown tests do not work, without specifying further.

Several of these are accounts that regularly post content critical of the corona pandemic and the global handling of it.

Austrian MP Michael Schnedlitz revealed the unreliability of the government’s covid-19 tests by showing that even a glass of Coca-Cola will test positive for covid-19, he says in a post.

The Instagram post is flagged as disinformation by Facebook.

Towards execution

In a fact check published by Politifact, it is explained that it is true that the politician did a rapid test to detect antibodies against the coronavirus, but that he performed the test incorrectly.

The Austrian company behind the test, Dialab, also explains in a Facebook post that the politician performed the test incorrectly and that this is the reason for the test result he received.

Before testing, immerse the test pins in a neutralizer bag that keeps the PH value constant. In a video on its Facebook page, the company does this before it is queued, and it gets a negative result.

Their claim that this is necessary to get the correct result is also supported by the US Food and Drug Administration’s testing guide, Politifact writes.

The company also emphasizes that these tests should be performed by hospital personnel or others trained to handle them.

Austria has been hit hard by the corona virus and restaurants and hotels have been closed until January 6, in an attempt to reduce infection rates.
