On Monday morning, the leader of the Sarpsborg Education Association, Knut Olav Farbrot, told Dagbladet that they believe the township schools should be closed as a result of the ongoing infection outbreak.
It was Sarpsborg Arbeiderblad who first reported this.
As of September 6, 75 people associated with a local outbreak were registered as infected in the municipality of Sarpsborg. Furthermore, 137 were registered as infected in Fredrikstad. A total of seven schools in Sarpsborg are affected by the outbreak.
The law
Farbrot refers in particular to section 4.1 of the Work Environment Act. The first paragraph affirms the employee’s right to a safe work environment, and the second paragraph establishes the employer’s duty to provide a work environment where emphasis is placed on the prevention of injury and illness.
– Teachers are particularly exposed, since they do not have the same infection control team that they have in the health system. What’s special here in Sarpsborg is that not all infected people give up their close contacts, which gives an additional element of uncertainty. So we think one should introduce homeschooling for a period to be safe, Farbrot tells Dagbladet.
The outbreak is related to a celebration of the Muslim holiday ashura, which took place in Skjeberg in the religious community Al-Ghadir Islamic Center.
Fredrikstad Municipal Chief Medical Officer Sofie Lund Danielsen told Fredriksstad Blad that several cases of infection associated with the outbreak refused to report close contacts. However, this has gradually improved.
Edelse crisis
– Do you want primary, secondary and high schools to be closed?
– It is up to the crisis management at Sarpsborg to consider it. But, in principle, the attitude should be to be safe. For example, they closed in Indre Østfold and quickly took control of the spread of the infection, says Farbrot at the Education Association.
– Are you more concerned about employees or children?
– I’m worried about the whole. All children have their parents at home, while teachers have their children at home. Everything is connected. As a union, we think it is very serious that employees in schools do not have infection control equipment that is not antibac.
Dagbladet has been in contact with the municipality, which does not want to comment on the outbreak at this time.
Director
On Sunday, the head of the Shiite religious community spoke to Dagbladet for the first time.
– We want to live in peace and not disturb others. Just look at the photo of our new center. It is located in the middle of the forest, said director Sadiq Baker Alezairjawi (54).
The director himself is isolated with tested covid-19.
– I have not noticed anything about the disease before or now. That’s what is scary. Many of our members who have been diagnosed with the infection have not noticed anything. In this sense, we ourselves are victims. It must have come from somewhere
