– We want to come together to end this as soon as possible, says Trondheim Mayor Rita Ottervik (Labor).

After several cases of mutated coronavirus have been detected in the municipality, they are now introducing stricter infection control measures:

  • Business closings, including gyms (see data table)
  • Kl pouring stop. 22
  • Request for a home office where practically possible and appropriate based on the nature of the job.
  • Measures in education and training activities, with the exception of primary and secondary school
  • Sports and leisure activities stop for people over 20 years old

The measures were adopted by the presidency this afternoon. All were adopted in accordance with the recommendation of the municipal director, with the exception of the point on the discharge.

The municipal director wanted to stop drinking, but the presidency said no.

Instead, they chose to adopt a representative proposal that the bar stop should be applied from kl. 22 instead.

Ragna Vorkinnslien (independent) who presented the proposal emphasized how hard the situation of the crown has affected the restaurant industry. Other representatives also questioned the danger of a beer for lunch.

Treated this afternoon

The proposed measures are based on the measures of Chapter 5C of the Regulation on infection control measures: Measures reinforced in municipalities with a fairly high level of measures.

In addition to the above points, it is desired to continue with a series of measures, which apply to the use of face masks, number restrictions in stores and shopping centers, as well as to the registration of all customers in restaurants.

The municipality also recommends limiting social contacts to ten people, in addition to their own home, work, school and kindergarten.

They also want people to be restrictive when crossing municipal lines.

Children and young people should be examined primarily.

According to City Director Morten Wolden, the measures are most likely to take effect from midnight and run until February 17.

It is also possible to extend the measures for a week, if you don’t feel the situation is under full control by then.

People don’t follow advice

Although the infection in the municipality has been declining in recent weeks, the background to the desire for strict measures is that several cases with the highly contagious mutated virus have recently been detected in Trondheim, where a route of infection is not yet known.

In addition, infection has been detected in two municipal units in Trondheim, which are now considered at risk level 4.

The infection control team also experiences that there are still people who do not follow the advice on quarantine and refuse to provide close contacts, the municipal director writes in the proposal for new measures.

Protest in the presidency

During the presidency meeting, it emerged that several of Trondheim residents are angry and frustrated at the proposal to introduce such strict measures, affecting businesses and people’s living situations, when the infection is generally quite low.

Some members of the presidency also protested because they believe that these measures are premature and will affect public health.

Marte Løvik of the Center Party, among other things, took a strong position against the closure of gyms.

The municipal director believes that it is important to be careful and says that such strict measures must be introduced because it has been seen that people have sinned in various areas.

“Unfortunately, there are some who seem to have not cared that much, and then it is the rest of us who have to pay the price,” says City Manager Morten Wolden.

He also receives the support of several who believe that it is important to be united in this case, so that the situation does not get even worse.

– The measures seem hasty, but it is because it is urgent, says Elin Marie Andreassen (Frp).

Spread to the neighboring municipality

The Municipality of Trondheim has obtained advice from various parties in this case. The municipal director has discussed the matter with the State Administrator in Trøndelag, the county municipality, the Norwegian Health Directorate, St. Olav Hospital and the NIPH today.

Trondheim’s neighboring municipalities have also participated in the debate. The wish is to coordinate new measures that can prevent further spread of mutated viruses in the region.

The infection is said to have already spread to the neighboring municipality of Stjørdal.

Infection that tracks strong pressure

The corona outbreak in Trondheim is linked to a foreign work environment. It has spread further, among other things, to a building materials company with many clients.

The case of infection in Bygger’n Heimdal, detected on Monday, has created a confusing situation in the municipality. Municipal chief doctor Tove Røsstad told NRK on Monday that they had no control over how many might have been exposed to the infection.

In addition, on Tuesday infection was detected in two adults and one child, where it has not been possible to identify where the infection comes from.

Because of this, the ability to track infections is under heavy pressure.

Mayor Rita Ottervik (Labor Party) believes that infection from imports is a big part of the problem.

– It’s too easy to enter the country and get an exemption from quarantine regulations just by writing a company name on a piece of paper, he says.

– We must continue working to implement serious quarantine plans.

South African case

It is mainly the British mutation, but a case of the South African virus has also been discovered. It was detected in a student who had not completed the entire quarantine period, albeit after two negative tests.

On Wednesday morning, it also emerged that a person infected with the mutated virus had been at NTNU in Trondheim.

The university asks all students who have visited the Øya Campus Knowledge Center Medicine and Health Library on Thursday 4 or Friday 5 February to quarantine. Write Adresseavisen.

On Tuesday, it was also learned that two infected workers had broken the isolation. The relationship was discovered by the guards. They were hired by the municipality of Trondheim. The case has been reviewed.

Do a crown test

The municipality of Trondheim has good testing capacity, and the Leangen test station was opened earlier than planned to relieve pressure.

Anyone with symptoms or suspected infection is asked to get tested.

The municipal chief doctor, Tove Røsstad, confirms that there are 27 cases of the mutated virus in the municipality. At least 130 people have been quarantined in various municipalities.

On Tuesday, three people were diagnosed with Covid-19 in Trondheim. The municipality says they are not related to the outbreak of the mutated virus.
