One of the cases is in Viken, one in Ullensvang in western Norway and one in Agder. This is confirmed by FHI on Tuesday.

All three people arrived in Norway from the UK just before Christmas. These are in addition to the two that were discovered on Sunday.

– The people in question will now be quarantined and will be followed by the municipality in which they are. We attend and make sure they are followed up according to current guidelines, says department director Line Vold.

Kinn and Oslo were previously known to have contracted the extra-contagious variant of the virus.

Two municipalities in western Norway

Ullensvang, like other municipalities in western Norway, has had a confirmed case of infection.

On December 20, the person came to visit from the UK and was diagnosed with Covid-19 early. Only today the test results come from FHI, which shows the infection of the mutated virus variant.

According to the mayor, the person is in good shape and ensures that there is no danger that the variant of the mutated virus has spread throughout the municipality.

– The person has been in quarantine since the corona test was performed upon arrival. The person in question has only been in contact with one person, Haug says.

Arrived in Norway in December

Just before Christmas, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson reported that a new, more contagious variant of the virus had been discovered in Britain.

Following this, the Government stopped entry from the UK on December 21, to prevent the spread of the virus variant. Several other countries did the same.

It is estimated that the new variant of the virus may be 70 percent more contagious than the original virus, but the virus does not appear to cause a more deadly disease.
