Thomas Brodie Sangster, love really

Many have witnessed Netflix’s latest hit, “The Queen’s Gambit,” where we follow Beth Harmon, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, a talented chess player on a colorful path to the top.

Along the way, he meets the already successful chess player Benny Watts, played by Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who becomes an important piece in Harmon’s career and life.

However, Brodie-Sangster is not familiar with participating in successful projects.

He’s in an iconic movie

The British actor with a distinctive and somewhat childish face has in recent years played the role of Jojen Reed in Game of Thrones, Newt in Maze Runner and as Paul McCartney in John Lennon’s childhood film “Nowhere Boy.”

However, it is a completely different role that was the breakthrough for the young Brit, who may remain his most famous performance ever. He plays ten-year-old boy Sam in the iconic Christmas movie “Love Actually.”

Be recognized for Love Actually every Christmas

Because even though most people know the story, we still see it year after year – the moment little Sam falls in love with Joanna and his heart breaks because he moves abroad.

The Love Actually star admits that the movie “haunts” him to this day.

– Around Christmas I enter a “season of recognition.” I fear it a little, but at the same time it is quite sweet, people almost always leave with a big smile, says Thomas Brodie-Sangster to the British magazine Heat.

He was 13 when the movie was made, but he played a 10-year-old boy.

However, being recognized has also put the actor in some small and unwanted situations, because they are not always just good words to pick up.

– What I do not tolerate is that people are rude or jealous. If a big boy’s girl recognizes me and runs away, she’s jealous for no reason … It’s mischievous. People can say what they want, but no one has an excuse to be a meat, says of an obviously familiar situation.

I had to practice singing worse

When Love Actually was going to be filmed, the producers were looking for a young woman who could sing, as Joanna’s role was to perform in the school’s big show (yes, where the prime minister finally kisses his secretary).

They then found Los Angeles-born Olivia Olson, who at the time was an 11-year-old singer who knocked producers to the ground.

She fit perfectly into the role of Joanna in Love Actually, and another star was born.

In a clip from the film, director Richard Curtis claimed that Olson sang “All I Want for Christmas” forever, so much so that they feared it wasn’t credible and that viewers would assume it was Mariah Carey who was actually singing.

Therefore, the 11-year-old had to practice her singing worse, among other things putting more breath between the lines.

Like his opponent Brodie-Sangster, Olson pursued a career in television and film. Olson, among other things, has dubbed and sung on Disney and Cartoon Network series.

The now 28-year-old golden throat has also nurtured the song, including sharing songs on YouTube, as well as releasing an album in 2018. In 2019, she participated in “The X Factor: Celebrity” in England.

They became boyfriends

At the same time that the popularity of the film has been tremendous, the questions about what happened to the characters have also been many.

In 2017, in connection with the great British charity event Red Nose Day, the long-awaited questions were finally answered.

In a fifteen-minute short film called “Red Nose Day Actually”, we saw Sam return home from New York to London on a surprise visit to his father Daniel (Liam Neeson).

With him is Joanna, whom he met in New York, and in a modern twist, he asks Daniel for his son’s hand to get married.

Thus, there was a happy ending to the love story between the two heartthrob.

Actually, Thomas Brodie Sangster is with model and photographer Gzi Wisdom.

– A great shock and surprise.

Brodie-Sangster had never believed that Love Actually would enter the Christmas traditions of millions of people.

Nor that the one who was an unknown child actor in his first feature should be allowed to steal the show from the big names.

– I read the script and didn’t know who else I should be with. So during the reading, I sat down and just saw all these famous people come in, it was a huge shock and a surprise for me, he tells Heat magazine.

With a star-studded cast consisting of Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, and Colin Firth, among others, Brodie-Sangster began to suspect the film could be a hit.

– I don’t think anyone could imagine that the movie would get the legs to walk the way it has. It comes every Christmas and people will still see it, it’s amazing, says Brodie-Sangster today.
