The Consumers Council estimates that half of Norwegians exchange one or more gifts they receive for Christmas on another item or coupon.
In previous years, the leading trade and service industry organization Virke has recommended that people rush to the store to change, especially if they want to get a different size, pattern or color. It is important to leave early if there is a gap on the products. – The exchange of Christmas gifts is not a legal right, but it is common to offer it in the store. Therefore, it is the conditions of the stores that apply and vary from store to store. You usually need to exchange Christmas gifts over Christmas, but the corona pandemic means it may be wise to extend the time frame to avoid crowded stores and an increased risk of infection, Skarderud says.
Many stores have already extended the exchange deadline to a little more than January and even longer, and they signal this when the gift is purchased.
