Homes chained in a row, surrounded by roads and green areas. Now much of the area was left in ruins after the massive landslide at Gjerdrum.

Where once there were row houses, now there is only a chaos of clay and ruins. Several rows of houses completely disappeared in the avalanche.

Ten people are still missing. Among them are men, women and children.

They are Finn Nilsen’s neighbors, who received the sad news that their house disappeared right after the landslide. It happened while they were in Valdres’s cabin.

He has lived in the neighborhood with his wife Wenche for six years, after they moved from Lørenskog to Gjerdrum.

– Absolutely wonderful to live there.

– There has been a fantastic group that has lived there. I think of all those people. We have had contact with a neighbor who was hoisted by a Seaking helicopter. We have had contact with other neighbors who have saved the dog.

I miss the neighbors

Christina Brenden’s home also disappeared in the avalanche. The family house leaned on the edge for a while before disappearing.

– The closest neighbors are safe. The missing live even lower down and were probably in the housing unit that collapsed first. So you don’t have much of a chance of saving yourself.

Together with the husband and daughters of three years and ten months, the family was in Sjusjøen’s cabin. Now the house they left is gone.

– It was a safe and good neighborhood with good neighbors and good unity. It’s not possible to imagine how it looks now compared to how we had it just a week ago, the last time we were at our house, she tells VG Thursday night.

– We thought it was a fantastic and safe place to live, he continues.

The family now lives with Brenden’s parents in Lillestrøm. They try to protect young children from what has happened.

– What we most cry are all the memories that have disappeared with the house. The second can be replaced. This simply cannot be described. A lifetime for our two girls who grew up there.
