Protesters are in the building, television images show.

OSLO / NEW YORK (Nettavisen): On Wednesday night Norwegian time, protesters broke through barricades and entered the Capitol, where Congress certifies the election results.

The congress building has been closed, reports NTB. The protesters are inside the building showing video footage:

Matt Fuller, a reporter for the Huffington Post, is in the building. He posted a video and photos showing armed people in the building. He is said to have heard an official say “shots have been fired”:

According to Bloomberg reporter Jennifer Jacobs, Vice President Mike Pence has been escorted.

Donald Trump has long waited for Pence to come to his rescue, in a last desperate attempt to change the election. He repeated that message in a speech Wednesday night.

This happened at the same time that Congress read and began to approve the electoral votes.

Pence opened the session in Congress saying he has no authority to reject electoral votes that have gone to Joe Biden.

At 8:24 p.m. Norwegian time, Trump signs Twitter:

– Mike Pence did not have the courage to defend our country and our constitution by giving our states the opportunity to certify a correct set of facts, not the false and inaccurate ones they were asked to certify. America demands the truth!

This was around the same time that Senator James Lankford was asked to stop his speech because “the protesters are in the building”:

A few minutes later adds Trump:

– Support the police. They are on our side. Keep in peace!

Reporters, staff and senators will be moved out of the Capitol building. Senators ran into the basement and through subway tunnels to a separate part of the Capitol, writes Alayna Treene, a reporter for Axios in Twitter.

Huffington Post reporter Igor Bobic reports:

– A person stands on the podium and shouts “Trump won the elections!”. This is crazy.

Elijah Schafer, a journalist at the scene, reports that police use “non-lethal force” to detain crowds, and that the scene unfolding in front of him is difficult to put into words.

– This is the sickest thing. The police cannot stop them. I’ve never met anyone like him, he writes on Twitter.

The Capitol buildings being evacuated are the Cannon House office building and the Madison Library of Congress building, reports Chad Pergram, who works for Fox News.

CNN Correspondent, Kaitlan collinsHe writes at the same time that despite repeated threats from Trump during his speech Wednesday, he has not marched onto Capitol Hill.

She writes that the president has recently returned to the White House and that many of his supporters are on the way. She also writes that the Capitol is in a “lockdown.”

A Huffington Post editor at the scene also warns that pepper spray is now being used against protesters. He has shared a video of what will be protesters pushing police down the stairs on Capitol Hill:

Democrat Haley Stevens, a member of the House of Representatives, wrote on Twitter:

– I’m hiding in the office. The building next door has been evacuated. I can’t believe I have to write this.
