This is how the police think the riddle can be solved with Anne-Elisabeth Hagen

Maybe it only took a few minutes to make it disappear without a trace. But it has taken months and years to try to figure out how it happened.

Almost like a point-to-point drawing, the police are still trying to produce an image that is ultimately so clear that it provides the answer to what happened to Anne-Elisabeth Hagen on October 31, 2018.

New information has recently arrived from the police. Perhaps together they provide a solution to the mystery.

– If the pieces collide with each other, then we see that the puzzle can go up and the solution will come. For that to happen, we depend on getting the correct answers. We still have relevant investigative steps left, which we believe may lead us to a solution, prosecutor Gjermund Hanssen tells Dagbladet.

You have received new responses

Since May last year, he has worked full time on the Lørenskog case. Approaching a year ago. At the end of August, he also assumed the position of prosecutor. Four months had passed since billionaire Tom Hagen was arrested and charged with the murder or complicity in the murder of his wife.

After ten days in custody, the billionaire was released from prison. Since then, many have had the impression that the work of the police is stagnating. That too long has passed. That progress is less and less, the answers are few and too many unanswered questions that a solution will never be reached.

This is an impression that the police inspector does not share.

– We are working on a complicated and demanding case, but we believe there is potential to solve. The responses that we continually receive, whether from interrogations, technical analysis, etc., are placed on the timeline that we have and contribute to new responses, Hanssen says.

“Forgive me for hurting you”

The mysterious emails

However, criticism has been harsh along the way, both from Tom Hagen’s attorney, Svein Holden, and the billionaire couple’s children. Not only because the investigation has taken a long time, the tunnel sight and what has been experienced have also been pointed to as allegations by the police about Hagen’s own reluctance.

The traces left in Sloraveien after Anne-Elisabeth’s disappearance were many. Since then, several findings have been added to the case. Cryptocurrency transfers, thousands of hours of surveillance video, and extortion emails are just a few of the things the police have had to work with.

However, the police insist that Tom Hagen himself is guilty of his wife’s death in one way or another. That the district court’s decision to place the 70-year-old man in pretrial detention was correct. And that the decision of the Court of Appeals on the release was incorrect.

In that case, it also means that on two occasions, either alone or with the help of others, he sent encrypted emails to his attorney with phrases like “Are you ready for the negotiation? Now you get the fuck out of the mistakes?” And “DON’T YOU LIKE THIS OFFER? Okay. WE’RE DONE.”

“Are you ready for negotiations now?”

Hanssen assures that the police, despite the fact that the accusation against Tom Hagen has been standing for a year, has not dispelled the hypothesis that Anne-Elisabeth was kidnapped. However, he does not want to give a detailed description of police theories about alleged events or more important moments.

– We consider that the accident, suicide and voluntary disappearance are very unlikely. But in addition to the murder hypothesis, we are still actively working with the kidnapping hypothesis, says the police inspector without wanting to elaborate on the timeline.

New interrogations and seizures

The enormous amount of material that the police has gathered in the investigation has raised hopes of clarification and headaches. Hope because with so much material it is difficult to imagine that the answer is not there somewhere. Headache because it has required extreme resources from the Eastern Police District. The case has already cost tens of millions in additional funding alone.

When Dagbladet asked last fall for a count of the material held by the police, the response was 3,400 seizures, 600 questioning of witnesses and 6,000 hours of video material. The scope has only continued to grow, even recently.

– In addition to the information we previously collected, we continue to collect new information. There is talk of new interrogations of witnesses, seizures and requests for extradition. The material includes video, toll passes, teledata and electronic clues that are considered relevant.

Perhaps the most important interrogation, however, has been lost. Tom Hagen himself has refused to come forward for further talks with police since last summer and, according to his lawyer, he has no plans to come forward for further talks unless new information emerges in the case. In February, Hagen’s defense attorney also stated that he expected the case for his client to be dropped.

Police hope

Among the latest responses to come in are analyzes of the so-called threat letter that was found in the single-family home in Sloraveien the day Anne-Elisabeth disappeared. A five-page letter written in broken Norwegian. A letter with monetary demands and threats against named family members.

Recently, the police were able to announce that further analysis of the letter had been completed. The report indicated that the person or persons who wrote the letter are Norwegian. Now the police are waiting for more similar conclusions that they can draw forward.

– We are working to achieve breakthrough in several areas. Of course, a breakthrough in the crypto-track would be very positive, but the same applies, for example, to the location of relevant people at certain times, which are relevant to the timeline, explains Hanssen.

– A long-term perspective

In addition to the clues mentioned, according to the police inspector, work with the so-called clues related to the action of the crime scene is also prioritized, including analysis of the nine footprints deposited with Sprox brand shoes.

The same occurs with the analyzes of the Biltema strips, as well as the envelope and the Clas Ohlson letterhead, on which the threatening letter was written.

However, the material is not limited to findings at the scene. Not until the date that Anne-Elisabeth Hagen disappeared from Fjellhamar in Lørenskog. Far from.

– If a witness has an explanation far back in time, then it may be interesting to look, for example, at teledata or other electronic clues that can help verify the information. We look at preparations, implementation and subsequent actions through all available sources and with a long-term perspective, not just around October 31, 2018, says Hanssen.

Dagbladet has contacted Hagen’s defender, Svein Holden, regarding this article. The lawyer writes in an SMS that he has no comment on the police information.
