This is how Glimt’s golden heroes celebrated last night

On Sunday, it became clear that Bodø / Glimt took their first gold in the Elite Series. Five rounds before the end, they have won 22 of 25 matches and scored 85 goals.

– We deserve it

There is no doubt that gold has been expected for a long time. When the players met with the media after the celebration in the locker room, all the clubs were drenched with champagne.

– This is a scandal, we do not have a single bayer, jokes Philip Zinckernagel, for the occasion with a golden hat.

– This is a pleasure ¨, and tonight we can celebrate it. We have deserved it, agrees his compatriot Kasper Junker.

The Bodø / Glimt course has been careful to believe in gold on the outside, even though they have looked superior all season. But after the gold was a given, the Danes had the following assessment of the club’s performance:

– We have won the series and it is totally deserved. We have been “very good” this year, says Zinckernagel.

Celebrated with corona-infected teammates

Both the Glimt player and the fans took the party further from Marienlyst to the street in front of the Thon Hotel Storo in Oslo. It was not accidental.

Inside the hotel, Glimt profiles that Patrick Berg and Marius Lode were quarantined after being infected with corona at a national team meeting.

– Poor bastards. We should try to include them as best we can, but that’s completely useless. “We can do a little bit more to give them a little joy in that shitty life,” Ulrik Saltnes gleefully tells TV 2 outside the hotel.

– It’s completely surreal

Coach Kjetil Knutsen, for his part, had tasted the lager after the victory over Godset.

– It tasted great, says Knutsen after celebrating with the team in the Marienlyst dressing room.

– I must say that now I invite you to smell some beer.

– Yes thanks. In fact, I do that too, admits Knutsen.

– I am above all pride. And maybe humility, for not being able to be part of something like that. There has been a response from many on this journey and it is completely surreal that we are here today and have won 22 out of 25 matches. Pride and humility are the first words that come to mind, says Knutsen.

Knutsen won’t take all the credit. When asked if there is a statue of Kjetil Knutsen outside Aspmyra, the humble Bergen resident answers the following:

– No, fytti … If there was a statue, it would have to be the entire coaching staff and it would be a bit expensive, I think. But it is the first league gold in the club’s history and it is big.

– we love this club

Pride was the common denominator between the yellow jerseys after the victory over Strømsgodset on Sunday.

– The feeling I have now is completely indescribable. I am very proud of what we have done this year. It’s absolutely amazing, says store assistant Fredrik André Bjørkan.

– We have known that we have done well, but to have it confirmed now is absolutely incredible. As a resident of Bodø, this is the largest.

Bjørkan is the son of a former player and now the club’s sporting leader, Aasmund Bjørkan. Father Bjørkan was a central part of the team that led Bodø / Glimt to double silver in the 1993 season.

– What about the Bjørkan family?

– No, it’s … I don’t know what to say to that. But we are residents of Bodø and we love this club. That is sure.
