Ståle Kihle is a legal aid attorney for Tom and Anne-Elisabeth Hagen’s three adult children.

He says the children were informed in advance about the NRK interview.

– Everyone agreed that it should appear. They believe that the time has come for a face and a few words to come out. As we understand it, an unadorned picture of Tom Hagen has been painted in the media, and especially through all the leaks that have come out from the police, says Kihle.

– What do the Hagen children think about the time to queue for the media?

– It was probably a natural time to do it, as you have been focusing a bit on this until yesterday. Beyond that, this could have been shipped at any time, Kihle says.

Tom Hagen is charged with murder and complicity in the murder of his wife. He denies his criminal guilt and has not spoken to the press, but has now given a longer interview to NRK.

– More focus is missing on Anne-Elisabeth

Do children understand that some criticize Tom Hagen posing for an interview in the media when accused of murder?

– Regardless of what people think about it, they stand up for themselves. There are certainly divided opinions on this, Kihle says.

Recently, development assistance attorney Kihle sent out a press release in which the children come out and support their father, Tom Hagen. They believe that the accusation against Tom Hagen is “a dead end, they know that he is innocent”.

The press release also claims that the family lacks more focus on Anne-Elisabeth Hagen and less focus on the charges against the father.

– It is clear that, in many ways, you will have to say something about your opinion on this matter. This is completely understandable, says John Christian Grøttum, a former Kripos researcher.

Former Kripos investigator John Christian Grøttum says he understands that Hagen has a need to present his version and perception of the case.

– Has not been available to the media throughout the process. So much has been written and said in this case that I understand that you should also be allowed to express your opinion, says Grøttum.

How wise is it to speak so openly when you are a suspect?

– It is clear that when something as serious as you are suspected in this case, you must have the need to contribute your opinions and information.

– I do not perceive that what stands out now is something negative. It must be allowed to do that. That is your full right. I fully understand it.

Can it have a negative effect on him?

– Hard to say, but it can’t be worse than it is.
