These seven municipalities are vaccinated first

On Monday, it emerged that the EU Commission approved the use of the Pfizer vaccine in the EU and therefore in Norway.

There are seven municipalities in eastern Norway that will establish the first 9,750 doses of vaccine at Christmas. These are Oslo, Ringsaker, Hamar, Stange, Sarpsborg, Fredrikstad, and Hvaler.

The vaccines, which arrive in the municipalities on December 26, must be administered in three days: December 28, 29 and 30.

This was stated by the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) in a press conference on Tuesday morning.

– Then there are just under 35,000 doses arriving in Norway this Christmas. Then we’ll have weekly deliveries of about 40,000 doses to Norway, says chief physician Are Stuwitz Berg at FHI.

40,000 doses

The second delivery of the 40,000-dose vaccine is expected to arrive on December 28.

Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine should be stored at minus 70 degrees during long-term storage and transportation. Once thawed, it can be refrigerated for up to five days.

– The work with the coronary vaccination program and with the information with this vaccine should be based on openness, knowledge, trust and voluntariness, says Geir Bukholm, director of infection control of FHI, in a press conference on Tuesday for the morning.

A Moderna vaccine, which can be approved on January 6, is next on the list. Both the Oxford vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson may also be approved at a later date.

Know the risk

The director of the Norwegian Medicines Agency, Audun Hågå, says he has a good understanding of the Pfizer vaccine and that it has been well researched.

– We know a lot about the risk of side effects. The most common side effects are mild to moderate and go away after a few days, he says.

However, Hågå says there are some things we do not know about the Pfizer vaccine, such as whether the vaccine can prevent transmission, how long it lasts, and how the vaccine works in older women, pregnant women, children, and people with weakened immune systems.

Send fresh boxes

More than 1000 coolers, to be used to transport vaccines, are shipped to municipalities before the new year.

They will help facilitate the transportation and storage of vaccines.

Initially, some portable coolers will be sent to the municipalities that receive the first vaccines this Christmas. So over 1000 coolers will be shipped before the New Year.
