On Saturday evening, the Bergen municipality sent out a press release on the situation and called on the inhabitants of the Bergen region to prepare for stricter infection measures.

Due to an increase in the number of mutated virus cases in Bergen, the city council has called on the government to introduce stricter infection control measures for the region.

– We are in a situation where there is potentially a massive spread, says health adviser Beate Husa (KrF).

– Many employees

She is particularly concerned about the South African virus infection at a construction site in Bergen. She won’t say what construction site it is.

– There are many employees who are connected to the construction site. We don’t have an overview of how many and haven’t tested all of them. It is a confusing situation that worries us. The South African virus may be more widespread than we have now, says Husa.

The Health Council hopes that the measures that will be introduced will be strict and close to the measures that were introduced in Nordre Follo and the surrounding municipalities.

In Follo, most of the stores had to close. So did restaurants, gyms, libraries, museums, and cinemas. Schools and kindergartens had to introduce the red level.

The government also advised residents to avoid visiting their homes.

– The government has developed a detailed regulation of covid-19 that establishes what measures are relevant. I hope they are based on these measures, but it is the government who must assess at what level they are, he says.

These are infection control measures that can be introduced:

Chapter 5A of the Crown Regulation contemplates, among others, the following measures:

  • Restaurants are closed. They can still remain open to sell food and non-alcoholic beverages that are not enjoyed on site.
  • Stores and department stores are closing, with the exception of: supermarkets, pharmacies, liquor stores and gas stations.
  • Gyms and pools will be closed.
  • It is not allowed to organize sports activities for adults or children.
  • Libraries, museums and entertainment and leisure venues are closed.
  • Cinema, theater and other cultural spaces will be closed.
  • The home office is mandatory, where possible.
  • Nozzles are required in places where it is not possible to maintain a distance of one meter.
  • Events are not allowed, except for funerals.

Husa says that it is natural for municipalities with mutant sprouts to have slightly more comprehensive measurements than surrounding municipalities.

– It is also possible that municipalities can introduce stricter measures than those decided by the government, if they think it is necessary, says Husa.

She hopes that the measures she hopes the government will introduce now will last for a short and limited period.

– We hope we can quickly take control of the situation, so that it can be released again soon.

Husa points out that the measures that are being introduced can be intrusive and have “significant negative consequences for the population, also for children and young people.”

The Councilor for Health, Beate Husa, does not want to comment on whether there will be a red level in schools and kindergartens before the press conference on Sunday morning.
