On Wednesday, Denmark will introduce stricter measures in 38 of the country’s municipalities after even more records of infection. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen says they are now closing bars, restaurants, theaters, cinemas and other cultural institutions.
This was announced by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen during a press conference on Monday.
– The infection is too high and the situation is too worrying. Therefore, we will implement measures to control the infection and the epidemic, especially since there is now little time until Christmas, he says.
The new measures include the closure of restaurants, bars, theaters and cinemas in 38 municipalities in large cities. Also, school-age children in fifth grade and up must be sent home from school.
In addition, the current infection control measures are extended until February 28 of next year.
Current measures include a ban on gathering a maximum of ten people, an invitation to a home office, and an order for bandages in some places.
Mette Frederiksen emphasizes that she hopes everyone will follow the measures that have been put in place.
– So you’re helping save lives, it’s that simple. I am sure that we will also be able to cope with the winter, says the Prime Minister.
Increased pressure from infection and more hospitalizations
Infection in Denmark has risen a lot in the last week, and Health Minister Magnus Heunicke says 2,046 new cases of corona were registered on Monday. It is a new infection record for the country.
– We are on the way to a new phase of contagion in the epidemic, where we know that there may be new pressure on the health service, he says during the press conference.
The Health Minister claims that 328 people have been hospitalized with the coronavirus at this time, and about half of them are in and around Copenhagen. It says they expect an increase of up to 400 hospitalized patients during the week.
On Sunday, Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned the Danes of a partial closure in Odense, Aarhus and Copenhagen, among others, in addition to several municipalities in the capital and in Zealand due to high infection pressure.
– We must fix the infection before Christmas Eve, the prime minister said in a Facebook video on Sunday.
On Sunday, there were also seven deaths from crown-related causes in Denmark. The increase in infection in Denmark is also related to the fact that many more are being tested than before. See the development of the infection in the country here:
