The tragedy of Fagereng – «113» in NRK –

[ad_1]

Sunday’s episode of the hit NRK series “113” deals with the tragic case of Fagereng, in which a 27-year-old woman and her three children were found dead in the Tromsø sea in December last year.

The episode first shows the dramatic ambulance call. We also get an insight into the impressions of the ambulance workers who were first on the scene, Trine Lynghaug and Therese Marie Bendiksen.

– I’m sure this is the worst I’ve ever experienced at work, and I’m absolutely sure that I will never experience anything like this again in my career in the healthcare system, says Lynghaug in the episode.

Was loaded

Both the mother and two of the daughters, ages four and seven, died. The youngest daughter, who was one and a half years old at the time, survived. After her death, the mother was charged with murder and attempted murder of the children. The case was dropped by the Attorney General in September this year.

– The police investigation has given the prosecution a basis to establish that she killed two of her children and tried to kill the third. The Attorney General has dropped the case because the accused woman is dead, police wrote in a press release.

Dagbladet has been in contact with survivor assistance attorney Erik Ringberg, who says he has not seen episode “113” and has not been involved in contact between the survivors and NRK.

NRK emphasizes that they have had contact with relatives.

– The father has seen the episode and has no qualms about it being broadcast. He saw him along with someone he trusts, NRK communications manager Nan Kristin Myhre tells Dagbladet.

“Unusual call”

NRK ‘113’ shows the incident from the perspective of ambulance workers for the first time. Trine Lynghaug will be coming to work on the afternoon of December 2nd. Bendiksen works twice and has been working for a long time. It is a normal business day until the ambulance receives what is described as “an unusual call”.

At 5:28 p.m., the Tromsø police received a message from passersby about a stroller in Kvaløyvegen and the tracks leading to the nearby water.

The ambulance is informed of an ambulance that has been abandoned. Three passports have also been found.

Already in the car, the warning lights begin to flash. Experienced healthcare workers begin to suspect early on that they may be facing a criminal act.

– This is not right, it is not true, says Bendiksen as she and Lynghaug drive towards Kvaløyvegen.

First on site

Bendiksen and Lynghaug are the first ambulance workers on the scene. By the sea, they meet the police. They have found two children and a woman.

Ambulance workers immediately begin life-saving first aid. They realize that they are very few people in the first place and therefore they prioritize children first.

Bendiksen says she was so focused on the task that she didn’t notice the biting cold. He threw one of the children, who was partially in the water, higher and tried to keep him warm.

It is not long before the incident is a priority for all emergency services in the area. Eventually the fire department finds a third lifeless child at sea, and the rescue team works hard to make sure there are no more.

– powerless

The day after the tragic incident, it is clear that the police are investigating the case as a criminal case. The mother and seven-year-old daughter are dead. The other two, out of four and one respectively, are currently seriously injured in Rikshospitalet.

The two ambulance workers do not hide the incident and the following days are difficult to face.

– It’s difficult to explain the feeling you have. You feel so helpless, while trying to think about issues. What can we do to help these people? Bendiksen says about the incident in the episode.

Lynghaug says that nothing he has experienced can be compared to the dramatic task.

– There is absolutely nothing that has been as bad as this that I have come across. It’s just the first time I’ve had it this hard after an assignment, he says.

The two also place great emphasis on the importance of talking about difficult impressions, and Lynghaug says it was important to come to work in the days after the incident to speak with Bendiksen.

– Strong to see

According to iTromsø, it was Olaf Jacobsen who watched episode “113” with his father. This is also confirmed by NRK to Dagbladet.

Jacobsen is an anesthesia nurse at North Norway University Hospital and a seasoned auxiliary corps worker, and it was he who first contacted the police after finding the stroller. After that, he kept in touch with the bereaved.

– We all thought it was strong to see. You move a little. I was involved in several incidents where people were killed in accidents, but this was different, Jacobsen tells Dagbladet.

Characterized the local community

The case has affected the local Tromsø community and, following the tragedy, fundraising for the father and daughter began.

– This has meant that he and his daughter have settled well in Tromsø, so the money has been useful to them in the difficult situation they have been through. He is very happy that the people of Tromsø called and showed them affection. That means a lot, Erik Ringberg, the children’s father development assistance attorney, told Dagbladet in September.

He also said that the father and daughter have chosen to live in Tromsø and have settled in a new home. The father has also returned to work.

– They have started a new chapter and are trying to get back to life as normal as possible, Ringberg said.
