Only once before have there been as many new infections as last week.
Displays a recent weekly FHI report.
– The situation has deteriorated significantly, says the director of FHI, Camilla Stoltenberg, who adds that we must do what we can to prevent the second wave.
There is an increase in most counties and all age groups last week, but there are large geographic variations, writes FHI. 1686 cases of infection is a 79 percent increase over the previous week.
– It is partly in the nature of the case that after a gradual increase there is a risk of a more abrupt increase, says Stoltenberg that there is a 79 percent increase from the previous week.
– The number of outbreaks is increasing
Since the last week of March, no more people have been infected in a week in Norway. Last week 1,686 cases were reported, a 79% increase from the previous week.
– The number of outbreaks is increasing, notes FHI in the report.
It is simply the second worst week of infection in Norway since the pandemic began, according to FHI figures.
- Brand: In March and April, significantly less testing was done and FHI estimates that actual infection rates were higher than actually recorded. Just look at how the test numbers have evolved:
Several hospitalized
50 people infected with corona were admitted to Norwegian hospitals on Wednesday, according to VG’s own summary. The number of people admitted to hospitals has increased recently. FHI also notes this.
They say we have a “slightly upward trend” in new corona patients in hospitals.
– This may corroborate that the spread of the infection has generally increased in the population in recent weeks. There were 31 new hospital admissions in week 43, the highest number in a week since week 17, notes FHI.
Most were infected in a private home in the past week – 40 percent. Others were infected at a private event, a restaurant. In 15 percent of cases, the route of infection is unknown.

Nakstad: – The situation in March was four to five times worse than today
422 new cases in Oslo
During the last week, 422 cases of infection were registered in Oslo, according to the weekly report of the Health Agency. Of these, 35 percent were infected in a private home. 23 percent of the cases had an unknown route of infection. This is a marginal decrease from the previous week.
An increasing number are infected abroad, as the government has previously noted. This mainly applies to Poland.
Fear of duplicating
There are 50 corona-infected people in Norwegian hospitals on Wednesday, a slight decrease from the previous day when 53 were admitted. However, this is much higher than the summer low of three hospitalized on July 24.
– It’s not super dramatic, but if it doubles once or twice, hospitals start to notice it in Norway too. That is the important thing here. That we can reverse the trend before this causes a lot of problems in Norway, says the deputy director of the Norwegian Health Directorate, Espen Nakstad, to VG.
– There is still a low incidence of serious outcomes, but there has been a slightly increasing trend in new patients admitted to hospitals with covid-19 as the main cause since the summer. This may corroborate that the spread of infection has generally increased in the population in recent weeks, writes FHI.
