Norway’s fateful match against Serbia can be played as planned on October 8 after the government granted an exemption from the quarantine obligation.
The exception applies to all national women’s and men’s soccer matches, as well as club matches in international tournaments. This means that the men’s team matches against Romania (October 11) and Northern Ireland (October 14) can also take place as planned at Ullevaal Stadium. The same applies to the women’s home games against Wales (September 22) and Belarus (October 21).
Rosenborg can also host Alanyaspor for the Europa League qualifying round at Lerkendal Stadium on 24 September.
It came about when the Minister of Health and Care Services Bent Høie and the Minister of Culture and Gender Equality Abid Q. Raja held a press conference on Thursday afternoon.
– The Norwegian Health Directorate has not recommended this exception. They believe that for reasons of equal treatment, this type of exception should not be given, but the government has chosen to emphasize that this is possible to carry out in a contagiously healthy way for this limited number of parties in question, says Høie.
Answer the question of whether you expect criticism of the decision to facilitate top-level international football:
– Very few have the opportunity to implement rules as strict as UEFA’s protocol stipulates, so I don’t think it is a big problem that many others have the opportunity to do the same. There will be some other international sporting events in Norway that are planned for the fall, where it may be possible to implement a similar program. We have not rejected them, but we continue to work on them. In football, it was crucial in terms of time to get an answer now.
If Norway wins the match against Serbia, a decisive match against Scotland or Israel awaits a place in the European Football Championship scheduled for next summer. Also in that settlement, Erling Braut Haaland (20) and his teammates will be guaranteed home advantage.
