It was during a video conversation with her students on Wednesday that Paola de Simone had acute breathing difficulties. The students tried to ask for help, but could not contact the teacher.

De Simone worked at the Universidad Argentina de la Empresa (UADE), where he taught international studies, among other things. She had been open about her illness and, according to the Argentine newspaper Clarín, she had been infected with coronavirus for four weeks. On Twitter, she is said to have written on August 28:

His personal Twitter account has been removed from the platform since his death. The professor had been involved in the public debate on the situation in the hard-hit country, which so far has had more than 450,000 cases of contagion, surpassed only by Brazil on its continent.

The students, who watched helplessly at the teacher’s discomfort, tried to find out where she was, but as Simone was struggling to breathe, she was unable to respond and report her address.

“Paola was a passionate and dedicated teacher, and a wonderful person,” UADE University said in a statement.

De Simone had a daughter with her husband.
