The municipality of Oslo is experiencing the highest number of new cases of infection since April, and on Friday Deputy Health Director Espen Nakstad stated that he is now more concerned about the infection situation in Oslo than about Bergen.
As a result of the infection situation in the city, the municipality of Oslo is also considering further tightening infection control measures.
Now the city council of health, elderly and services to the citizen of Oslo, Robert Steen, asks the population of the city to sharpen up and take care of the distance.
– I think we have relaxed too much to follow the most important measures. The meter is the most important thing. We must reset the meter, he tells Dagbladet.
Have conversations with FHI
– We are concerned about the high infection rates in Oslo and we are closely monitoring the situation. It is positive that FHI has a dialogue with the municipality of Oslo, Secretary of State Anne Grethe Erlandsen at the Health Ministry told Dagbladet on Friday.
– Disturbing broadcast in Oslo
Steen says they have weekly meetings with FHI and the Norwegian Health Directorate, where they discuss the infection situation in Oslo and share experiences.
– We discussed, among other things, this recommendation on masks in public transport and group sizes. These things are continually discussed with the Norwegian Directorate of Health and the NIPH, he tells Dagbladet.
– What do you mean by that, can it be relevant with a bandage order?
– I think we have a tradition from the Health and Assistance Services that requests are the last thing we turn to, and we still haven’t arrived. But I am concerned that few use masks when the meter cannot be maintained.
Personally, Steen recommends to all of Oslo to go for the purchase of reusable mouthpieces, or to sew it yourself.
– You don’t need more than four to six reusable mouthpieces, he says.
The Ministry of Health emphasizes that there will not necessarily be a tightening of the restrictions, but that some of the measures may also involve intensifying communication and information, and that the municipality is already in dialogue with Ruter about it.
He also says that one has to consider whether it is relevant to hand out tissues for free on public transport in Oslo, but that no conclusion has been reached on this.
Does not exclude Bergen measures
When asked what measures are being considered in Oslo regarding reductions in group sizes, Steen says it is natural for Oslo to observe the effects that Bergen has had from its measures.
– They have implemented a number of measures in Bergen, so it is natural for us to go there. They have reduced the group size from 20 to 10, so I’m curious about the effect of that, he says and continues:
– We will now follow the development of the infection very closely before we get there. We have to look at the infection rates for today and for the weekend.
According to Steen, Oslo follows the government’s TISK strategy (testing, isolation, infection detection and quarantine) and finds that the capital has good capacity in test stations.
– We have a good professional capacity for infection detection and we are able to isolate and quarantine close family members. That way we have control, it says and adds:
– It is the meter that is most important, and I think that the meter has shrunk quite a bit in some contexts. We need to reset the meter.
