The old big club is heading downhill

Røa used to be the best team in Norway. Next year it seems there will be games in the 1st division, but a little hope is still alive.

Røa-Lyn 1–3

RØABANEN: Lyn’s players gathered in a ring and danced in the middle of the field. The Røa players could smell victory in the air. Kringsjå guests have put all the advance advice to shame. With two games to go, they have already avoided direct relegation.

For Røa, it looks significantly worse. The old greatness of Norwegian women’s football is by far the last. Up to Kolbotn in the qualifying place there are four points. They MUST win against Arna-Bjørnar and only against Kolbotn in the last two matches. Also, they depend on help.

Røa is definitely the older sister of Oslo football, with five league golds and the same number of cup golds.

Now they are not even the best in West Oslo. To the east of the city, Vålerenga is also fighting for her first league gold on the women’s side.

Røa had its heyday from 2004 to 2011 when it won 11 trophies. Since then, they have no titles. The last few years have been more modest in terms of performance, but they have always remained at the top level.

In the glory days, they had profiles like Lene Mykjåland, Elise Thorsnes, and Siri Nordby. They were the best in Norway and reached the quarterfinals of the European Cup.

Now it seems dark.

– At the moment, there are opportunities for a qualifier, so we have to move on. “The most disappointing thing today was that we were not at the level we expected,” said a disappointed Geir Nordby.

– a part of life

The coach in general was improving. It is also now in the biggest recession since the team took over the first division two decades ago.

– What does it do to your motivation?

– It may not be exactly the right question to ask right now.

– Because now you feel something that you had not done before?

– Yes, but I will continue as a coach. The coaching profession sucks, and we have to put up with this. It’s part of life, Nordby says.

Both teams went to work with some caution. Still, it was 2-1 for the guests before the 20 minutes were contested.

The home team took the lead when captain Kathrine Jørgensen was completely unmarked after a free kick. However, Lynie quickly tied for Emilie Raaum Closs.

The restructuring operation was completed by Sofie Tunes. He got an easy job putting the ball into the empty net.

Røa never managed to mobilize for a proper final sprint. In extra time, Trine Skjelstad Jensen secured the victory for Lyn.

I was leaning down

Most of the media, including Aftenposten, left Lyn at the bottom of the Toppserien.

– You failed, and I think there were many who did, scorer Jensen smiles.

She thinks she looks brilliant now with a view to establishing the club in Toppserien.

– I think it looks very promising. We have a lot of young players, many of whom now have at least two seasons in the top league, he says.

Coach Ole Johan Aas understands that the team leaned towards the bottom.

– We had the least experience and the lowest budget. So you tend to end up at the bottom, he says.

The manager is targeting Camilla Linberg, who is a year behind the top of the top scorers list. She has developed a lot. Cathinka Tandberg is 16 years old and has already played a lot at the highest level.

The club is known for being good at developing players.

– It’s cooler and easier to develop soccer players in the Toppserien than in the 1st division. We must work to increase our experience and budget. So far, I haven’t heard of any rich dude actually opening their wallets, so we need to continue down the path we are on, he says.

Lyn faces Vålerenga and LSK Women in the final two rounds of the series. They are three points behind Kolbotn in qualifying for relegation.
