The Norwegian Public Roads Administration proposes 46 major road projects and section improvements to focus on in the next National Transport Plan.

– This is the result of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration reducing costs by NOK 50 billion on road projects included in the NTP (National Transport Plan). We can therefore propose that new projects be prioritized, says road director Ingrid Dahl Hovland.

– We have not finished building a road in Norway. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration works with more roads for the money, and then we also get more road safety for the money, continues according to the press release from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

Goes for long distances

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration believes that the benefits of investments are fully realized when they can be planned, built and improved over long distances.

– We want to do more of this in the next NTP. We build new where we have to and improve where we can, says Dahl Hovland.

In the next NTP, which arrives in the spring, more funds will be invested in several long tranches of improvement, such as along the RV. 3 in Ă˜sterdalen, rv. 9 Setesdal and rv. 94 in Finnmark.

Cost cuts

The current transportation plan, which runs from 2018 to 2029, provided for a sharp budget increase.

– So far in the period, the annual investment budget of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration is NOK 9 billion below the planned escalation, according to the press release.

With higher budgets and reduced costs, 46 projects can get the go-ahead in the first six-year period. In the portfolio, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration takes into account the projects that are included in the current transport plan, whether the projects are ready and what they provide for socio-economic benefits as well as regional effects.

The next National Transportation Plan will cover the period 2022-2033.
