The Norwegian Public Roads Administration to build a new E6 Fauske-Mørsvikbotn, not new roads, NRK

The E6 section between Fauske and Mørsvikbotn in Nordland consists of 16 narrow, narrow and dark tunnels.

The section has been the scene of numerous accidents. For several years, there has been talk of doing something about it.

NRK has previously written about long-haul driver Bjørnar Solvoll, who would rather not run into other vehicles on the stretch.

Today, however, the government came up with a clarification for Vedum and impatient motorists: it is the Norwegian Public Roads Administration that will proceed with the project.

– They must involve contractors early in the process to find the best solutions for the road, optimize and save money.

This is what Secretary of State Ingelin Noresjø (KrF) from the Ministry of Transport and Communications told NRK.

The objective is to reduce costs and optimize projects.

It was also clear today that the Norwegian Public Roads Administration will work with E39 Hordfast (Stord-Os).

– The new paths have involved entrepreneurs at the beginning of their processes, with great success. We want to give the Norwegian Public Roads Administration the same opportunity, says Transport Minister Knut Arild Hareide in a press release.

The mayor is satisfied: – Provides a certain commitment

– The fact that the Norwegian Public Roads Administration gets this job is good, writes Fauske Mayor Mariell Rendall Berg in an SMS to NRK.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration must have been the most desirable concept.

– The fact that they now start with an early participation is not the same that they start to build the road. But it gives some hope and a certain commitment to construction.

She writes that the tunnels in Sørfold are given top priority by the Salten regional council to the NTP (National Transport Plan), and that she, as mayor, fully supports it.

– It is very important that this happens, as a road closure divides Norway from two to four hours, he says.

It affects communication and shipment of goods, such as fresh fish.

Sørfold Mayor Gisle Erik Hansen says a new E6 will be of great importance to the whole country.

– This is not just a local problem. Those of us who live here always find a solution. But it is the rest of the country that gets into trouble when the goods don’t arrive. So this will have enormous significance for the whole country, he says.

He is also pleased that the task has been entrusted to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

It must find its place in the transportation plan.

This was an important clarification.

Several have asked questions about who will expand the stretch.

Both the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and the Nye veier joint-stock company are interested in building on the section, with slightly different concepts.

– Now we are going to work with the National Transportation Plan. This section, like all sections, must find its place in the next plan to be built. We are working on this now, says Noresjø.

This is a section that must be taken sooner or later because the tunnels do not comply with the tunnel safety directive.

The E6 section between Fauske and Mørsvikbotn in Nordland consists of 16 narrow, narrow and dark tunnels.

– Therefore, of course, it is important to start this as soon as possible, says Noresjø.

The national transportation plan will be ready after the New Year.

I was already working on it

When Center Party leader Vedum drove the stretch of road with a truck driver in September, he was glad he didn’t drive himself.

– We were already in the process of this when Vedum was traveling through the tunnels. So we laugh a little. Their concern was unfounded, says Noresjø.

So there is no reason to fear that this stretch will only fit a little bit?

– Now the Norwegian Public Roads Administration will move forward with the concept that is already the foundation. These are not minor adjustments. It’s a good, future-oriented road project for these tunnels, he says.

A final cost framework has not been established for this project.
