The Norwegian Health Directorate will have the leisure quarantine for the quarantined household members. NIPH believes this is too strict. At 4 in the afternoon, the government will respond with the following recommendations.

There is a disagreement between FHI and the Norwegian Health Directorate on quarantine rules in private homes, it appears in its recommendation to the government.

The Norwegian Directorate of Health wants to expand the scheme, while NIPH emphasizes that they are concerned this will lead to absenteeism and stress in businesses, schools, nursing homes and home services.

  • Leisure quarantine means that you should avoid social activities in your free time, even if you can go to work and school.

At 4:00 p.m., the government will present new measures, which it announced last week.

These are the quarantine measures proposed by the Norwegian Health Directorate to limit infection in private homes:

• People who have recently developed a respiratory disease should remain asymptomatic before returning to work or school, regardless of the type of response they received to the coronate test.

• People living with a quarantined person must abandon social life and leisure activities for ten days.

• People who live with a person who has symptoms of coronary heart disease should stay away from social activities until the patient has received a negative test result.

In FHI’s comment to the Norwegian Health Directorate, they write that these measures represent a significant extension of the quarantine scheme compared to current rules.

They believe that the leisure quarantine for domestic contacts will affect many, especially children and young people who are not allowed to participate in important social settings, and they will see how the quarantine can be better targeted, among other things through increased use of tests.

– Overall, we are concerned that these measures will lead to a large absence. In meetings with municipalities and county governors in which FHI has participated together with the Norwegian Health Directorate, we have noted that an increase in absenteeism due to seasonal respiratory infections and quarantine have been reported as a cause for concern.

They believe that quarantine is used a lot in some municipalities, so the number is large even when the risk of infection is low:

– A proposal to expand this should be studied in more detail in dialogue with the agencies responsible for socially critical functions, health trusts, and municipalities, in addition to being adequate and proportionate.
