The municipality warns: – It can introduce stricter measures for everyone during Christmas

The case is being updated.

Screening for infections in Trondheim has revealed disturbing conditions. Too many people care too little about infection control, says the municipality.

– What we revealed yesterday and today has a much greater scope than we had thought. It’s really bad, says director of health and wellness Helge Garåsen.

This may mean the introduction of stricter measures already during Christmas.

Reports on parties and trips abroad

On several occasions, the infection trail in Trondheim has revealed that in some settings there is an extensive link with many social contacts. Surveys of people who tested positive give the municipality reason to believe that despite strict guidelines and recommendations, many people behave as if there is no pandemic, the municipality writes in the press release.

Garåsen says there are gaps in both private and social contexts when it comes to parties and social contact. Some settings are said to have had extensive social contact, as well as strengths with various people, creating large outbreaks.

– It is so alarming what has come out that we decided to go out with this now. We also see that there are many who have planned some social activities for Christmas, which is reckless in every way, he says.

– Some do what they please

Garåsen points out that most people are good at following the rules, but there are some who are not:

– Some do exactly what they please. They expose others to risk and lack solidarity with others, he says.

He says there are several trying to camouflage that they have been social lately when the infection control office makes contact.

– This makes it even more difficult to track infections. It always comes out after a while. Obviously, there are some who have very little memory, says Garåsen.

Measures can be introduced at Christmas

If the situation does not improve significantly in the coming days, even more intrusive measures may be taken in the future.

– Then there will be even fewer close contacts and a limit on the number of people who can stay in public places. Everyone needs to improve. Especially those who haven’t yet, Garåsen says.

An extraordinary meeting of the presidency will be organized on Tuesday next week. Then the crisis management will provide an update on how the infection situation has developed. Then new measures will also be introduced.

– Our findings are alarming and give reason to seriously consider whether a more extensive closure will be introduced in Trondheim this Christmas, says Garåsen.

– Fear of the infection figures in the coming days.

City Manager Morten Wolden says a crisis management meeting is scheduled for Christmas morning.

– Then we’ll just see what the next few days bring. What we are seeing now is disturbing and we have no control over the spread of the infection. Although the numbers were slightly lower today than yesterday, there are so many with an unknown source of infection. I’m scared of the numbers we’ll see in the next few days, says Wolden.

It confirms that during the day today Wednesday have been discovered “a significant number” of cases of infection in Trondheim.

– It is now a public holiday, so probably no new measures will be introduced before the presidential meeting next Tuesday. But we have to consider that until Christmas. It is not set in stone that no action will be taken sooner. If it really takes off now, we have to get together earlier and see, he says.
